In my humble opinion.......................its a total farce! Because we are next up we have to be seen to support the chinese which is wrong, they should not have the games!! and as for the London ones  :troll: don't get me started!!!

They are building a new shooting place which will be torn down when they finish because of the stupid gun laws in this country, there has been all sorts of rumours about a huge mosque (i THINK thats an urban myth??) and they are ploughing millions into this when we really need that investment elsewhere in the country

The one we are hosting should have gone to France, they have the infrastructure and facilites already built. We don't. We won't.

It is going be a sad farce.

now I'm pretty happy go lucky kind of guy but I couldn't believe it today, how f%%%%ing dare a British policeman, running alongside the torch and it accompanying chinese "escort" (almost certainly chinese coppers) "body check" people out of the way whilst on a british f&&&&ing road.

All this talk about  'Free Tibet'... where do i get mine?    I'd settle for a free pizza right now :)

Seriously though ,before anyone complains, what are china doing there anyway?Just strategically withdraw would be the sensible option in this day and age.
Hmmm dont think the u.s. are pushing the issue though.

They can do it because you are no longer allowed to protest in this country!! If you are within a square kilometre of Parliament you MUST get permission to protest, Below is an excerpt from a BBC web site.

"An exception to this was introduced as a part of the Serious and Organised Crime and Police Act 2005. This act bans people from demonstrating in any area designated by the government."

So straight away, things like " greenham common" wouldn't be allowed to happen these days! if you want to protest inside a square kilometer of parliament, you need to ask permission!! [Edited] I thought parliament was OURS!! the politicians work for us, but we are restricted access to them!! We are not allowed to protest near them!! WHY?

They tell us its for national security, which it probably was, but you can bet that they would use this against us? That is why there are no fuel price protests going on! they will not get permission!

and we talk about the chinese abuse of human rights!! Does anyone know who the last politician was that banned hand guns and fox hunting???? NO???

It was HITLER!! he banned handguns so the peasants couldn't rise against him! makes you feel nice about our government dunnit!!

Does this mean the british olympic shooting team will have to hand themselves into police at the endd of the games? as it is they have to practice abroad.  It's perverse.

We can at least guarantee that we won't win any medlas in shooting, they'll go to countries where the sport has not been criminalised.

I cant wait for Chineese to block the "british olympic torch" due to our invasion of Iraq. I wonder how many of the people who agree (or even paticipated) buy  Chineese manufactured goods that we insisit on importning (outsourcing our polution to China) and undermining Bristish manufacturing. The only way to vote in teh UK is with your wallet.

I have to say that I for sure would not have been taking part in the Policing of that protest. The reasons being that I haven't run for many years, and I don't intend to start now. Secondly, I would not have looked good in all that nice Lycra Police cycling gear. Yuk!
It does smack of double standards, but it is difficult now to find a way to protest against the Government of China, considering how much of a stake that they, along with our Russian 'friends', have in the industry and infrastructure of this country.
Due to lax policies over the years, we are no longer able to send a few gunboats up Yangtze river. We might be able to muster a couple of rowing boats from the local boating lake, providing they have not been pre-booked for that weekend.

A few years ago I was involved with, along with several thousand others, the policing of the Anti War Protests and the G8 summit.
Even I was concerned at how the legislation brought in to combat terrorism, was being twisted to suit the needs of the time. It raised a lot of moral questions for me.

A little quote to ponder over.

Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal.

"nice Lycra Police cycling gear"  admit it, you want some, but the bosses won't let you use it for private useage  [-X [-X

What we do have to remember as well though, is don't blame the police for doing what they are told to do! blame the organ grinder for getting them into this position! cos you can bet that if someone gets hurt, it won't be the organ grinder gets the blame!!

Same as our military over in Iraq etc, they are only obeying orders!! its there job!

In China!

I was watching a report today about the Olympics. Apparently the authorities in Beijing count the number of 'Blue Sky Days' they have, namely when the sky is not obscured by smog. So far this year, there have not been many. There are a number of marathon runners threatening to pull out unless something is done about the pollution, as it will cause major issues re training.

No honestly, 18 months of desk work means I'm seriously out of condition. If I was to put black lycra cycling gear on I would look like an overly large black pudding, and may well be arrested for breaching laws regarding obscenities in a public place!

Very good! Are you sure it wasn't one of those lighters shaped like a pistol, that was in fact a pistol?

I did a course a few years ago to do with Public Order Policing. There was a guy on the course who was from the Hong Kong Police. Very nice chap, but he got very dismissive when it came to the bit about considering the protestors human rights. His answer to everything was to either shoot it, bulldoze it or drive a tank through it.
As far as he was concerned, anyone who broke the law deserved what they got.
I asked him about the 'Interview technique' that is used in HK. He had a slight grin on his face when he said no one ever denied the offence for which they had been arrested. Very scary
