Clunk on take up of drive
« on: April 09, 2008, 14:18:41 »
Time for me to flog my 200tdi disco.  but i have this clunk on take up of drive.  if i left clutch slowly you dont hear it.

I suspect main shaft on gearbox... as i have checked prop ujs and diffs seem ok.

tried it without the front prop too, still no joy..

So questions views

Gearbox or t case>

Can i take the t case off and then the gearbox out or is it a gearbox out all attached.

thining if i plan on doing this on the drive and less weight will be good.

The answer is yes to both options, but why would you if your going to sell it? and what's the actual fault, gearbox, trans box, diff, prop's...., it could be anything......

My V8 was like that it was a combination of play in the diffs and the gearbox was like it until i got rid of it never had a problem

i would have a guess that it's the centre diff in the transfer box, that was what went on mine!

I thought they all made a clonk when you are a bit eager letting the clutch out?

Had a look at my manuel and on the net and a lot of clunks taking up drive are down to the 'A' frame ball joint being worn so the axle pushes and pulls on the bushes and drive shafts...
so many hills , so little time ....
