It Squeeks now i stopped its leaks lol
« on: April 10, 2008, 17:38:02 »
Evening all

Ive noticed over the past week a loud squeeling noise from the disco, so I finally dared to turn down the radio to judge this death rattle  at first i thought it was a wheel bearing (again) but no

It seems to do it only when car is in gear and accelerating and or slowing down ? and the noise definatly stops if i take it out of gear and coast

the disco has a 2" inch lift so maybe the uj`s ???

any ideas guys would be lovley "apart from the take a torch to it option cos ive considered it"

cheers keith

Sounds like it could be a bearing in the alternator or just the belt slipping, when your coasting the engine is at idle so theres no load on the belt or bearings.

If th UJs are squeeking they are past saving.

A squeeky belt can be elliminated by pouhring washing up liquid onto the belt, once it washes away it leaves the belt nice and clean too :)

thanks guys its not the alternator as thats brand new and no its not the kind of squeel from a belt, its like the metal chattering a bearing makes when its shot lol im a dab hand at reconising that noise  heheh

but i cant feel any play in the uj`s they seem solid

I had the same with mine, they felt fine whenon the car, it wasonly when I took them off.  Try a bit of grease and see if there's a difference.

I reckon too thats it the UJs - there may not be play evident but when you take them off you find all of the needle bearing broken up and turning into brown dust in the caps!

if you need any help bring it round

Strip it and grease it now before it fails.
