Is it me?
« on: April 14, 2008, 17:59:35 »
Is it me, or do alot of the posts made lately start of with a negative reply. It doesnt appear to be the nice calm and collected club i joined all those years ago.

I run another forum, and am a member of several more, but they are not like this.

When people ask for help or advice, or even peoples opinion, they dont seem to be freindly and helpful anymore.

Perhaps im just looking at them the wrong way. ??

EWWW. Thats a bit of a Gay comment. :)

It wasnt just the Gay comment. I see more and more topics ending in a dispute rather than helping people out. Have a look around.

Personally I would agree; I'm sure a lot of the comments are made in jest but the intent doesn't come across in print so it's the cold hard words that are said.

Isn't that the term Total Offroad used to describe the Mitsi L200 warrior?

I think alot maybe being taken out of context, as people have different senses of humour and sarcasm levels.

If I think about it you have a point.  I can't remember how long I've been a member but it stikes me that I used to converse with a regular grouop of individuals, many of whom I could put a face to.

Now it seems a lot less personal and there are definite conflicting personalities.

But we are a big club now, twice the membership than when I joined, if not 3 times.  This I think shows that we are generally a friendly bunch that people feel comfortable joining.

So what do we do to resolve it? well I don't think doing nothing will work for ever, if someone has noticed this happening I'd bet he's not alone.

Well, I try to go for constructive criticism. I would never just say something is rubbish!

TBH I've not really noticed a rise in aggro hereabouts since I joined. I realise I've only been here since November but I've only noticed one member who seemed to provoke minor scuffles over Discovery styling... ;)

The worst bit for me is when you give advice and you don't get any feedback to say yes that did it or kiss my proverbial

It happens, I have stopped giving Discovery advice as often for the same reason. Either people ignore you and break theirs anyway, or don't say thanks. Sadly that's the same on every forum and club I have ever been a member of.

Of course, people do say thanks too :)

Sadly this why I don't contribute as much as I used to. I still pop in quite regularly but it saddens me reading some of the replies to well meaning or desperate posts. I think it must be the same decline in civil responsibilities that is effecting so many other aspects of life.

with 10,000 members (even if only aquarter use the board) thats a lot of opinions, and some are bound to conflict...

i dont get on as often as i would like anymore (cant get on at work!) and have too many other comitments at the mo, but i do think that on occasions bantering turns to bickering, and its hard to control ho people read whats been typed...

that and the fact that they`re letting some right riff-raff on here these days!

It has been said that, given enough time, a million monkeys bashing at a million typewriters would eventually produce the complete works of Shakespeare. Thanks to the Saxo forums, we now know this to be wrong
