hi all. bit of a strange one this. can you connect braided brake lines direct to the caliper insteadof to the fixed pipe thats on top of the caliper. also does brake line have to be solid pipe or could you use braided hose

You can connect a braised hose direct to the calliper but then you have the problem that you can't unscrew it without taking the other end off first.  SOme cars have the flexi go into the calliper and the end fitting is changed accordingly.

I wouldn't bother with tioo much flexi, it's the weakest link in the chain, rigid pipe properly secured is far safer.

Hi Ade.

You should speak to David at Llama 4x4. I got some excellent brake flexi from him, stainless braided flexi, covered with a sheath to prevent mud ingress, and for £1 each, I got stainless steel ends. He makes any lengths to order, standard price upto 1mt long. I replaced the front to rear pipe on my Disco 1 as well as the usual flexi's, and I did as you suggest, replaced the short solid pipe into the calipers also. To get around the problem mentioned above David can supply LR standard connections, so if I rip any pipe off it can be replaced using LR standard parts. I know now that my pipes are good for the life of the Disco, and any work I have to do in the future wont include rounded connectors, or seized pipes.  :D

I second the llama 4x4 brake lines , He did some for me cracking job over length and a nice blue colour ,banjo at one end with a swivel on the other
