V8 Clutch change, do I need to drain the oils ?

I am in the process of changing the clutch on my Disco 3.5 V8. there are two pipes running to the oil
cooler, I take it these come off of the gearbox.

Do I need to disconect these pipes and if so will I have to drain the gearbox.

Are you lifting the engine or dropping the box? the pipes will be supported by 2 brackets on the engine sump, these need disconnecting whateverm if you drop the gearbox then yes the pipes need disconnecting, the housing they fit into canbe removed and a new gasket fitted more easily than the pipe unuions can be unscrewed in situ.

You don't need to drop any oil though, but it makes things heavier.

I am planning to drop the box, My thoughts were break the unions on the pipes where they go into the flexible pipes at the front of the engine, just seems easier. And if as you say I don't need to drain any oil then that will be a lot easier.

Any helpful tips for fitting the clucth, picked up the new one today from Aschroft it is an AP which I believe is thenew name for Borg & Beck. he also gave me an old drive shaft as a centering tool.

Hope the weather holds for the weekend and I can get cracking.

The pipes are rather brittle, I'd strongly suggest you split them from the gearbox end, remove the housing from the gearbox then you just need a new gasket.

there are NO oil cooler pipes running to this model g-box

only the auto box's have an oil cooler piped in

if someones fitted an oil cooler to youre motor you should fine the pipes terminate on a block sitting between
the oil filter and the pump housing

I definatley have 2 pipes coming from a cooler below the radiator and terminating on the side of the gearbox

the car is a 3.5v8 with a manual gearbox
