Vitara rear axle
« on: April 20, 2008, 10:48:37 »
After a slight mis-hap greenlaning I had to replace the rear diff on the Vit, I did this by replacing the whole axle as it was easier and quicker, but, now there is a metallic clicking sound from the rear near side, I have taken the wheel off and the bearing seem to be ok, i.e. they don't wobble and I can't see anything catching. There is no vibration when driving, just a clicking that gets faster and slower with the speed of the car.
Any ideas as to what to looik for appreaciated

Zuki's need love too!

A click noise once per revolution can sometimes be caused by:
the double roll pin securing the planet gear stub breaks, then the stub slips outward and gets knocked back in by the pinnion every revolution.
I have had this once on a std diff and seen it once when I bought a lock rite.
Time to get oily I think
