Please be aware that if I am travelling at 50mph in a 70mph zone it is probably because I'm BEHIND something else that is going slowly. If you hadn't been so close to me that I could only just see your roof you *may* have spotted the traffic ahead of me. No amount of light flashing (hard for me to see actually when you are about 6" off my tow bar...) and beeping of your horn will speed me up or make me move.

It was encourging to see that when the obstruction had moved aside after carrying out its passing manouver you hadn't the power or acceleration to carry out the threatened out acceleration of the big black tank in front of you.

When you eventually, and I do mean eventually, passed me (I was only doing the speed limit) and gave me some rather pointed hand signals was it because you were embarrased at being made to look stupid, or because you thought you owned the road?

Maybe next time I see you pelting up behind me, I'll just sit at 60mph to see if your lights and horn are still working. Call it a little favour, a sort of pre-MOT check  :twisted:

Why do some people have to be so arrogant in there driving style? I had some pillock in a silver range rover pull out on me on a traffic island in Hertford this morning! Next time i might just speed up a little and give you a loving nudge with my rather large winch bumper

Yes, I get the same thing, they think big=slow and dont think about wahts in front. Had a serious case of this in a BIG hired van when moving stuff, bloke tail gated me as I was overtaking but had a slower car in front as well, then he pulled inside to undertake and nearly hit the car I was overtaking.

There have been a number of times when I have had to "control the road" ( and I dont meand being a "road captin" and blocking, I mean balencing speed, braking, position etc)  in order to make people avoid accidents they seem intent on having, every now and again I have the desire the let them carry on and crash, unfortunatley its not fair on thier passengers/other road users so I do the nice thing

If you want really spectacular cases try a big motorhome. You either get the sort that pull out then find to their surprise that in front of the 22ft Hymer is a little noddy car doing 45mph for no apparent reason, or the really amusing ones. Usually these are white vans that pull out on hillclimbs, then find that they can't outdrag you.  :twisted:

The ones that really get me are those that overtake me coming out of a 30mph limit, then proceed to settle down to 56mph. I would have been doing 60 in another few seconds...

I love it when they try that with me and wonder why they are currently trying to pass nothing, and their "target" is somewhat further forward on the road than they anticipated ;-)

Big does not always = slow. Learn to read and possibly you might understand what either SUPERCHARGED (on one of them) or 4.6ES (on t'other) means ;-)

I still chuckle thinking about the Ferrari owner who tried to cut me up from some lights because he was in the wrong lane, he was looking over with that "Ah easy - I'll just out accelerate him and nip into his lane" look. Amber light, sports mode - boot it. Ferrari attempts to cut up ..... my caravan. The look on his face was classic. So beware - big car + 21 foot caravan does not = slow either ;-) I did of course only accelerate to 60mph (as we were on dual carraigeway) - and it was at this point he pulled out from behind me, drew level, gave me that "I've got a Ferrari" look and booted it - and nearly took out the mini that was doing 70mph in front of him. Numpty.

Travelling down a main road, i wanted to turn right to go to my destination, the VOLVO 4x4 driver infront who is keeping up with her neighbours surname also was going the same route.

Lo and behold what did she do, tried a complete U turn in the junction, leaving my bonnet a couple of inches from her drivers door,

We were sat there for about 5 minutes with cars behind me sat in the road in the path of oncoming hgv's and a bus,while she attempted the 5 point U turn,

Rant over !!! why didnt she just continue & turn round somewhere suitable, beats me ! :roll: :-#

There's a few downhills that I sometimes go down*, that are easily descended at 50 - 60MPH!
Cars pull out (or are descending slowly) & certainly don't expect a lycra-clad rider to overtake them :lol:

There was a plank in a red 206 tonight who didn't know how roundabouts work ,

From Bangor up to the 55 there is a roundabout that crosses over the 55 two lanes in and two out followed by another round about ,

I go straight across the first one and turn right at the next so I appoach in the right lane go straight across then turn right at the next ,During this manouver the other driver or plank as he shall be known aproaches in the same lane as me then overtakes on the ouside of the roundabout cutting up a white van, then starts to drift back into my lane as he's going my way :shock:

The look on his face when I pretended he wasn't there and floored it off the roundabout was priceless  :twisted: he then proceded to flash ,honk and wave at me untill we came to the next roundabout where a traffic car was doing laps waiting for him (must have seen the flash headlights) they came round behind him and the blues came on  :lol: :lol:

Hope they held him up for a while as he was in an awful hurry :twisted: :twisted:

And from the state of the car (you see the coppers do it on TV ,spot the dodgy car at 200 yards) I'd put money on it having no mot/tax/insurance..

the thing i miss is the hilux.... the buck sits at normal bonnet height... under hard breaking it rose, by a few inches... upon stopping/easing off the brakes, it returned to normal position.....

....can you all guess what happened when i had to brake hard with the "al kayeeda cab driver" sat on my ass??

I had a rubbish day on friday and went to pick up my missus, on the way to our beloved Public house ;)

a rep mobile VW Pass(h)at had its left idicator turning right, when i signaled my horn to alert my presence, he and his shirted boy friend were offering me hand signals, some sort of directions i think

Unfortunatly for him i followed him behind a few cars that had turned out in front of me and had a word with him when he pulled on to his drive way,

Turns out he wasnt that brave after all! Its amazing what a few tattoos do to peoples perception of you! lol

You don't even need the tattoos with one of these. I had one Volvo convertible driver mouthing all sorts of obscenities at me for daring to obey a temporary 50mph limit through roadworks. Oddly enough he only felt brave enough to do so from a couple of car lengths away, you'd have thought he'd come closer if he really wanted me to hear  :lol:

Well mine today was a lorry driver who managed to not see me in my nice new (used) clio.  Thankfully there was nothing in the third lane so i made a quick manouvre over there, but i dont think he looked in his mirrors once, as i was along side his cab when he pulled out!

Jeez, I had this happen tonight on the way home from a County Scouts Evening;

Approaching an island with red traffic lights controlling access on a dual carriageway at 60 mph, with a Numpty following a 150 yds behind at the same speed in a eurobox; I start to slow to a stop at the lights, Numpty behind decides the big 4x4 in front will be too slow exiting the Island onto the continued dual carriageway, so changes to the offside lane and stops beside me.

Lights change, and neither of us are putting pedal to the metal, we're both negotiating the island reasonably, although with him now on the inside of the island, he naturally gains half a car length by using the shorter route over the island.

We both exit the Island, and I use the same gentle acceleration as always to reach my 60 mph cruising speed (you don't get an average of 19 mpg on dual carriageways with an LPG V8 with a lead foot), and I thought said Numpty would floor it after the island, but he doesn't, he's just maintaining the same acceleration as me, keeping the same half-car length between us?!!?

His nearside indicator flashes, and the eurobox starts to change into the nearside lane, into the side of me, but at the last second before impact, he suddenly looks over his left shoulder and all hell breaks loose.

He floors it, his eurobox is now snaking all over the sodding road suffering from too high an acceleration combined with too fast a movement in the steering, he's lucky to keep it in one piece, narrowly missing putting one wheel onto the gravel on the nearside, and almost colliding with the armco protecting the central reservation by over compensating with the steering.

At 55 mph I click resume on the cruise control and it gently maxes out at 60 mph.

I just can't quite believe what I've just witnessed, but these idiots have accidents all over the country, I just think they are in some sort of trance behind the wheel, they just don't see anyone else, and the 4x4 was obviously a blot on the view ahead that needed to be 'sorted'.

Now I don't agree with driving aggressively, and contributing to a potential accident, but I can understand the frustration can cause aggression when confronted with these idiots when you meet them.

Five minutes or so later, the same car is now is slowing for a slight incline, and a car travelling more slowly in front of it in the nearside lane, I approach at 60 mph using cruise control, and indicate 300 yds before to change lane to the offside lane, and as I'm passing the Numpty he suddenly realises that he can't pull out because I'm alongside him and overtaking, and has to brake, nearly colliding with the car in front...definitely some sort of trance, has to be.

Sometimes I think cyclists need a test, or at least an understanding of turn signals and the HIGHWAY code. I'm stunned that my kids have not had to take cycling proficiency tests - what is the world coming to. Blame the car driver for ALL accidents?

My mother, god bless her soul (she passed away last July - bone cancer), had extremely good advice about driving, 'treat everyone on the road as an idiot and expect stupidity', she was a wise women.

The DSA sort of frown on that advice to learner drivers :roll:

-if you assume everyone else on the road is an idiot, you'll be proved right more often than you're proved wrong.  You never notice good driving.

-If you see an indicator flashing, it's safe to assume it has a bulb in it, nothing more.

*coughs politely* and mentions the fact that hubby is a HGV driver/Motorcycle rider/4x4 owmer and driver - covers in excess of 75,000 miles a year and BOTH acidents he has been involved in - in the 20 odd years of driving were caused by the other party being oblivious to him (both times whilst driving HGV's) renault Laguna watching the Red arrows train in Lincolnshire - and female car driver blind to the fact that red bright lights and sudden deceleration mean the vehicle in front is stopping!!!!!!

Was it a commuter (jeans, fleece???) cyclist, or someone on a decent bike in Lycra.

Most (but not all, I'm not going to truely generalise) commuters tend to think if themselves as infallible & immune from the niceities/legalities of the road.

Personally I'll not go near the near-side of a truck/bus at a junction, even if it's not indicating left.
Never have, never will!, I've seen the aftermath.

My 'pet-hate' is motorists who pass you, then immediately turn left in front of you, or (as happened a couple of weeks ago), pass you (me) at a roundabout & then turn left literally yards ahead- with no indication!!
There's a Mondeo somewhere in Castleford, with a Sidi shoe shaped dent in the passenger door, after really scaring me and forcing me to turn with him.

Plus, there's also the tw*t who thought it was funny to throw (I think it was??) a McDonalds box, with the remnants of the contents at me on Tuesday afternoon.
This was on the A162, between Monk Fryston roundabout (A63/A162 junction) & South Milford roundabout.

Very luckily for the passenger, the truck that held him up at the roundabout pulled away when I was about 100 yards from him.
Given the stupidity of that act, I would have seriously punched him! - even to the point of trying to break the side window to do so.

Why?, because the vehicle behind the car, & hence over my right-shoulder, was an artic!!!!!!!!!

If I'd swerved due to simply seeing an item coming at me, clipped the kerb & gone down.......................................

Joanne would have been writing an Obituary on here for me, & the trucker would have been a witness in the Coroners Court

i had this on sunday except i wasnt riding a bike i was driving the landy, it was raining and the guy in front in his modern car decides to slam on his brakes reverse slightly and turn left, now forgive me but whats the stopping distance of a 21 year old 90 in the wet on off-road tyres he soon shifted when heard me skidding towards him, it would have been my fault aswell wouldnt it because im spost to by magic see him and stop in time ( i was following at a resonable distance but my brakes just arnt as good as his my fault for not planning for this ) luckly i missed him

but it wouldnt have happend at all if he had indicated
