MPG with 33's

Have a set of 33's waiting to go on the disco and am wondering what sort of change /drop in MPG I should be expecting to find. I will also be changing the transfer box to help with the gearing.

At present I get about 30mpg with the K&N and full width intercooler .

On a steady run you might get about the same, but if you are doing a lot of stop startinh then it will drop, noticeably.  It's not just the gearing but the amountof weight in the tyres that you have to get moving, it takes more than 3 tims the effort to spin that weight as it would if it were in your boot.

sorry 33s need some work on the gearing its just to much to ask for it to run smoothly and normal unloaded driving feels like a great carvan on the back

It will appear to drop dramatically because the new tyres through your speedo out.

Good news: you can add 14% to any new mileages recorded to eliminate speedo error. Simply multiply mileage by 1.14 to get an accurate reading.

Ian's changing the transfer box so the speedo will be within about 5mph of the actual reading with the 33" tyres on there, at least mine is meadured with a GPS.  ;)

With the same setup as you're planning Ian, I'm getting about 26mpg on a normal day but that's with a winch on the front and a large roofrack. So, once the gearing is sorted, it doesn't make that much difference and it also drives much the same as well.

funny that, when i went to the MOT center a few weeks back, i had a traffic light GP with my brother in-law, he was driving a totally standard 200TDi 110, my disco isnt that modded engine wise but wears 33"x12.50" and i managed to out drag him and overtake.........

Cant understand why anybody would want to use retreads. In my experience they wear fast, are nigh on impossible to balance and prone to failure. That and they normally have a very low speed rating.
