Exactly, you never know!

I do all the time, laning or whatever.
It's part of our events supplemetary regs.
No belts, no drive!!
And that's even if it was built without the need for them. Seen too many rolls to think otherwise, even at the slow speeds we use.

I put the shoulder part behind when I'm on pay and play sites. But am looking at harnesses, as I find normal seat belts can twisted your back if the ground is a bit rough. I'm a bit obsesive about wearing my seat belt, was drumed in as a child.

Although a quick query for the plods, is it legal for delivery or taxi drivers to not use their seat belts if they are doing lots of short trips. Which require them to exit the vehicle at every stop?

Delivery drivers must wear seat belts (unless reversing) no matter how frequently they stop. White van man is one of the worst offenders for not wearing seat belts.

On All the time, If you go on to you tube there are some interesting "Arab Drifting accidents" where theare not wearing seat belts and get ejected from the car.

Did loose a friend a few years back, was trown out of the cab of his truck when it fliped on it's side. He ended up with the cab crushing his pelvis, died 3 days later in hospital from his injuries. This was at slow speeds on a round-about. Would think the few seconds to put on/remove a seat belt would be better lost than the remaining years of your life.
Even if you think you have a very little chance of rolling off road, you should belt up. It doesn't take much for environment to suddenly change and catch you out.

For those who think it's safe to "trundle" around and only belt up when it's something challenging...

I was on board when this happened to a driver in 1st gear low box... Had we not been wearing our seatbelts it would have been washing machine time. I was very comfortable to be hanging upside down when things came to a stop.









Also, I wonder what ths statistics are for seat belt buckles jamming in the event of an accident. Are we talking about something that is unlikely but has become an urban myth?

Apologies to all, I forgot about the 2005 amendment to the seat belt rules, which has the following exemption from wearing a seat belt:

- [the driver of or a passenger in a goods vehicle on a journey not exceeding 50 metres undertaken for delivering or collecting anything], [Motor Vehicles (Wearing of Seat Belts) (Amendment) Regulations 2005 - 01/03/2005]

Thanks for reminding me :oops:  As it was a laning trip, I was wearing my seatbelt, including the brief time I spent upside down sliding down the hill on the roof.  I walked away with two bruises and I think I got one of those climbing out.

I would definitely say BELT UP.

I would definitely say seat belt on. Having been in a washing machine - sorry tractor with no seat belt (20 years ago) and rolling it down a hill it certainly hurts. I was baling straw and thought I could go where the combine had been :oops: obviously not and before you ask yes I was taking it steady

You don't have to be in a roll or be travelling at speed to need a seat belt.   Try crossing a set of dried ruts at 10 mph with no seat belt...   your head will be bouncing off the roof and that's a very good way to get seriously hurt.

The only place you need to be when driving off-road is securely planted in your seat...    if you can't drive it properly when you are there... then maybe you need to have a rethink !!!!

On for me. I have hit my head on ceiling before now over rough ground when not wearing belt and it hurts, never happened on same section when wearing belt. Across flat fields when opening gates, cba to wear it - judgment call.

and im sure if you are the worlds worst off road driver you could roll it over whilst in enough water to drown you if you couldnt get out.

I know of a couple of people who have been saved from SERIOUS INJURY having their belt ON !


It's all choice at the end of the day, like everything else...

If you have a ONE LIFE, LIVE IT sticker on your vehicle...you'd look a right <edit> WIT without a seatbelt on, if life's to be lived to the full !

Definitely ON unless in deep water or in a very narrow section with no risk of bumps.

If you can stay in the seat, your not going fast enough. 

On "track day" cars they reckon a set of 4 point harnesses and decent part of driving shoes is worth seconds a lap (and the most recommended mod) as you get better control as you are not chainging body position so can keep contol inputs (hands and feet) consistent. Thats definitley my experiance having done time on track in both 3 point inertia and 4 point harness setups in the same car, same seats.

Defininately on.  Mate rolled his Triumph Herald in the sixties, before seatbelts were even fitted to most motors.  Tumble drier didn't do it justice. My first action after getting out of hospital was to get a set of belts for my Mini (which had the fittings, but not the belts :?)

Mind you, I carry a knife on my keyring, just in case I can't get the belt to release after an incident  :lol:

O/T  Anyone else remember the wonderful cornering of the Herald above 60, the hop, tramp, teeter, pray.  Did they ever cure it?  I was always wary about getting in them after my experience above.
