Is this the Alternator
« on: May 02, 2008, 19:18:20 »
On my v8 disco the battery light is staying on, when I go above 3000rpm the light seems to flash.

I have checked the voltage at the battery and it is 13.8v when at about 2000rpm battery doesn;t seem to be
going flat.

Any ideas what this might be, and how to cure it ?

Cheers

Steve

It might well be a dodgy regulator unit on the alternator - mine went this time last year, symptoms were:

Battery light glowed faintly all the time
Occasionally the rev counter would go mad, flicking up and down. The battery light flashed in time with this.
If I stopped with the lights/radio on for a while, then started the engine and drove off, the light would be completely out and the rev counter perfectly behaved.
