The Stupid Thing What I Did Today

Couldn't get a bolt off :twisted:  :twisted:  so decided that 10 seconds with the angle grinder would sort it :D . Goggles on and started up.

Grinder slipped and took chunk out of finger  

Moral :?:  ALWAYS PUT YOUR GLOVES ON :|  :|. Because taking a large chunk of finger out hurts a lot    (Fortunately mother is with St Johns and has and is trained to use all the kit).

Um, I've just come inside to get an extension lead (couldn't keep away from MC!) 'cos I'm about to remove a stubborn nut using Land Rover special tool number 2 (No.1 being the BFH).

Scared now...   :?

You need a nut splitter, it's an essential part of the Land Rover toolkit.

Done that once or twice and come away relatively unscathed.  No excuse though, Safety First.

On the subject of nut splitters, they never work for me, well rarely anyhow, plus there is a certain satisfaction in removing that b***y nut in the most destructive way possible.

A nut splitter was no use to me this time as it was the nut on the metal pipe side of the rear flexi hose, one of those "half height" ones.

I had a job where we called No.1 tool a "calibration tool", but I client got wind of this and thought it wasn't very professional and complained to management.  Understandable to a certain extent because we worked with delicate process control and monitoring equipment.   :D

I actually prefer my oxy bottles - I can do or undo virtually anything with them!!! and in the tightest of places too!!!

I did something similar today whilst cutting floor tiles with a stanley knife - slipped and nearly sliced the top of my finger off!   loads of the red stuff kept the kids laffing for while whilst I went whiter and whiter!

Wouldn't have worked. It was the bolt causing the problem. No space to drift out as shock absorber bracket gets in the way. Hence the need to cut the radius arm off.

Got that fun to come soon, tret myself to an air powered saw.  Trouble is how quickly it empties the res on my compressor!

Same here. Apart from missing a bit of my finger (it's more a groove then a cut) I have 3 other open wounds

Simple job to do today, drop and refil gearbox oil on the disco, still managed to skin two finger when cracking off the drain plug should know better than putting hand in between spanner and gearbox :x ,
glad i did though was well past its sell by date :)

not as good as me taking the engine mountings & chains of the trialer,got my finger stuck between the mount & the spanner & had to put a big leaver in & wedge the mounting across  to get it out  :shock:  :shock:

What can I say! guilty of all the same,skin knuckles quite regular, still have scar from sticking blunt stanley knife into arm.and while grinding the head off a bolt on a s3 put my finger into the cutting disc cut through top of finger right in to the top fingernail but didnt bleed atall as it quarterised itself. but it hurt all the same  :roll: must be a landy owner thing

I am a big fan of angle grinder mounted cup wire brush thingies.. Cleaning up the space frame on a kit car I felt something hit my chin (I had googles on etc).  Assuming it was a bit of rust I went to brush whatever it was away and found my hand covered in blood, and something sticking out of my chin that wasn't 3 day stubble.

1/2 an inch burried into my chin was a piece of the wire from the cup brush.  If it had gone into an eye it would have been very serious.  It's quite funny now as nothing happened but it could have been very very very very bad.

Stay safe and use precautions!
