anyone got a job for me?
« on: May 07, 2008, 19:56:19 »
It is time for change again. been in my current job for a year now and I am just unhappy. The job itself is great but the people I work with arent so fab. constant jokes leading me to now whether to believe them or not on doing something, then them having a go at me because I did something wrong when that was what they told me to do. I can't win.

After being bullied from the first day I started junior school and in every job I have had since and I am now 26 I have had enough with working with people. I want a job where I am on my own in a van with or without a trailer pootling about (not doing parcel deliveries) and have nobody bullying me. My life is going down the plug hole as it is. I need a new job to help me climb out the plug hole and get it back together again.

Needs to be in Daventry / Banbury area preferably.

even on a narrow boat moving them about I would be over the moon doing that.

chin up chap, ive had a similar thing where i live, not so much as bullying just total lack of consideration . the times ive just wanted to walk a way. cant sell the house feel totaly trapped. any way i stayed in a job like you just to pay the bills. big mistake iff your not happy get out before it grinds you down....the narrowboat job sounds great always fancied something like that my self but family and kid commitments. where you are, have a look round braunston or whilton see iff theres anything going there. another one is canal time , or an bn narrowboats at crick but maybee alittle far. let me know how you get on . but trust me im 40 this year and it dont get any easier . just ride it out do what you want to and enjoy things the best you can . all; the best alan....

Shame you aint in the stoke on trent area. We are after x2 guys pref with the ability to use a spanner/grinder and willingness to learn welding/fabrication. £27k pa to start. www.airproducts.com (Will only be on temp 3mth contract, same as i was a year ago.)
On another note, you could get ££££'s in compensation if your forced out of a job due to bullying.

:( theres allot of people out there with similar probs fella. i got really bullied at school and the best thing i ever did was stick up for myself and lay one on the main bully. i had no self conf whatsoeva until that point.  I'm not saying thats the way to go but let yourself be heard, even if its as you walk out. feels a hell of a lot better.  who cares what other people think, at the end of the day your your own person and you should be proud of yourself.  Jobwise have you thought about training with the rac or aa on the recovery trucks. you meet alot of people who are always happy to see you and the best part is you dont have to see them again.

Chin up m8 and hold your head high. your better thn them ;)

Dont take no [!Expletive Deleted!] young man. choose the one who has got the biggest mouth and stick your fist right in it. preferebly when no one else is looking. i did that but i lost my job and got fined 200 compensation. but it was worth every penny and i would do it again. i ended up with a better paid job and now i get the respect i deserve.

i cannot offer you a job try the temping agenceys they are always looking for reliable chaps. good luck in the future.

Hubby is in a similar poition, 5 weks off due to illnes (and still not 100%) and he has no interest in going back to work, he drives the disco like a granny, and is constantly in fear of something happening, so we are considering a job swap - he becomes a house husband and i will go out to work!
(probably earn more than he does too)

Cheer up. Know the feeling chap. I moved back from Milton Keynes to Scotland, cause the guys at my work were idiots. Was lovin the job, driving lorries from Northampton to Milan, double-manned. Was like being in a mobile jail.

Got a job as a Youth Worker, doesn't pay much, but i've no commitments, love it.

Keep scouting around, it'll come good. Good Luck.

I appreciate what you say about not working with people, but at least with my job, you tend to get your own back on the bullies, and its legal!
You also get some gucci toys like big sticks, Pava spray, and cars with bells and lights and whistles and stuff!

Bullies are cowards. I've not come across one who isnt yet. I've been bullied through all my "younger" life, and until you turn round and do something about it, it won't get better.

Have a look http://www.bullying.co.uk/adults/workplace.aspx and http://www.successunlimited.co.uk/maps.htm#Bullyonline you may find some useful advice.

I took the shrekster route but it was a head butt not a punch .

I was at the end of my tether and had been taking crap for at least 12 years

butted the guy after he got up close and abusive , then I walked away head held High...

it was life changing and empowering I got a new job and a new car more money and time off .

I'm not saying violence is the answer it isn't , However walking out and saying nothing will just move the problem to your new job.

close your old life by making a stand ,then move on to better things .Good luck things will get better... ;)

Keep your chin up mate,

Can't say I have ever been bullied, so wish I could help you out mate.
Though all I can say, there is always light at the end of the tunnel, I'm sure something will turn up sooner or later :)

Let us all know how you get on.

Cheers

Not like my old focus, it creaks like a Spanish gallion!

I agree, being new to the police... 3 years service, I can say I have never worked in such a great environment. we all get on, yes we take the [throw it] but there is a mutual respect for each other. Even CID join in and they normally have no sense of humor!

Chin up mate, there are lots of jobs out there.....

even on a narrow boat moving them about I would be over the moon doing that.

Have you been around the various boat yards? You never know. A friend of mine lives at a yard in Coventry and does odd jobs to help pay for his keep. Not a full time job though.

In the mean time, don't let the "people of questionable parentage" get you down. You will always have plenty of support on here as you know. Even if it is in the 'virtual' world.

Best of luck mate.

thanks everyone for all the comments. Cant mud club just be an office somewhere being nice to each other and get paid for it?  :-k

I have had a pretty poo year and this is one of the niggling things that is wearing me down. The agency driver I had today said his agency do training too so might go for the hgv again. It isn't in northampton either, so different roads etc.

These all seem silly but off the top of my head, a list of things that arent going right this year.

  • Mums dog died
  • rover costing £600 for mot then another £200 2 weeks after for anew exhaust
  • rover windscreen leeking to find out it is the roof rusting away. get roof sealed, next day huge stone ship in windscreen
  • veg oil conversion on disco not working properly for 4 months
  • boiler at home blowing out all the time
  • 2 caravans and 1 serviced, damp tested etc recently and nobody wants to buy either. £300 spent on advertising
  • disco breaking down on my birthday
  • not enjoying work. move rounds and no better
  • cousin seriously ill in hospital with Leucemia.

As you can see. most are petty things but they all build up. Not after violins playing etc. Just a list of stuff so you guys can see where I am coming from!  ;)

yes they do build up . thats what grinds you down . been there done that trust me. still going through certain things . the only thing i can suggest is make a list from the worst to the not so bad and the ones you can rectify and the ones you cant . the ones you can rectify ie work . do it . get something else. the landy sort it . harsh  i know but . the less on your plate the better you will feel . things like your cousin being i'll you cant do nothing about or change just be there and suportive, pm  me iff you like . the other thing is theres a boat show on at crick end of the month .nice show , iff the weathers good its great. might see iff i can take our boat this year , but its shared with me dad so i'll have to see. chin up. as for the disco any advice or tech advice just shout .. alan....

Hi James

Dunno if this is any good, but two options for you...

We are based in Brackley, so should be OK for your location and have two openings currently:

1) Assistant Warehouse Manager - closing date is officially today, but I will try and get a job spec etc - if you have a CV and want to PM it to me, I will stick it on the right desk on Monday morning.

2) We are always on the look out for tent-builders - typically you would work as one of a small team (foreman, 2nd man and two or three others) out on site.  Have a look at the web site - we are the largest structure company in Europe ( www.deboer.com ) and are currently buidling for Chelsea Flower Show, Farnborough Air Show and so on.  Our crews tend to work mainly in the UK, but in the last 6 months we have had crews in the US, Sweden, France, Germany and Dubai...

Hope this helps

James I don't know if it's any use to you but I've  a 200tdi engine you could have for £100. Could meet half way for a bit of diesel money.

We spend a fair bit of time on the cut might see you around next time we pass through Banbury. Keep your head up mate.

Hi James,

I know exactly where you are coming from.  :| but.....

I have learnt that I can always think of other people worse off than I am and that makes me greatfull for what I do have.

I am currently in a simular plug hole as you. I have been job hunting since July 07 - got a job in Feb 08 to be made redundant 3 weeks later. Wasn't gutted at all! I moved into a new area last July - knew no one at all.  3 weeks after moving up and in with my boy friend, he told me that we were finished but wanted to stay in the cottage as he had no where else to move to. Difficult but could be delt with untill he moved his new girl friend in at the end of Feb. They went at the end of April - was not a very pretty parting.

My current situation is now I am STILL looking for a job and stand to loose the cottage I live in due to lack of money and legalities of ex giving his notice. I know that I can't go into renting as I have no job and no one to be a garentor for me so I am desperatly trying to find a house mate.

However, I currently live in a great village with great people, I have great friends and I have my health and animals.  Certain aspects of life will always not be the best but its what you do to change those things that are important. Most of all - don't sink into depression - its very hard to get out of it and once you have had it you are suseptable time and time again. Stress can also make you physically ill which will aid the depression. Good heathly food (yes that means veg - dark green veg is the best! :->) and water! God I sound like a Mother!

Think possitive that possitive things will follow.

I know the feeling- I used to get no end of hassle in one of the jobs that I did, and its near impossible to work in  situation where despite having done exactly what you have been asked to do it still isnt the right thing, or well enough, or quickly enough, or in the right place....despite following instructions EXACTLY as asked.
Some people in life are just born Ar**s! And unfortunately 'we' have to deal with them. Its all well and good to stand up to people and yes, it does give a lt of satisfaction, but there is often a backlash as a result that can be awful.
I got suspended from school when I got attacked by a lad, whilst being held by another. Because I elbowed the lad who was holding me in the face to break free and then chucked the other lad on the floor....... because I didn't walk away and 'assaulted' the pair of them. The fact I had a black eye, cut lip etc etc from being repeatedly punched in the face counted for nothing. The school deemed that somehow It was my fault- I got punished, and the two lads got off.

Unfortunately that is the way it is in life sometimes and we can bang our heads on walls trying to sort out those MINORITY of scum. Your right, you shouldnt have to but sometimes we have to remove ourselves from the situation and say balls to it. There will always be other opportunities out there for you.

As regards the other things that are going on in your life, think about the people around you, family friends etc who are all going to be there for you. Even MC members are here and Ill be honest, sometimes seeing the response to posts on here renews my faith in humanity lol!

I will be back from Uni in a few weeks and some of my family live in Banbury and Stratford so if you fancy an afternoon laning then PM me and it gives me an excuse to see my brother and Sister-in law and go out to play!

Chris

Oh yeah- have PMed you about a poptential opportunity job-wise

'Its Gripped'
'Its sorted!'
'Lets Offroad!'
