Had one of them come into the office through the window about an hour ago, one of the guys managed to catch it but I couldn't get a pic because of my rubbish phone camera.  They had another one buzzing around the lights on the gatehouse, and stomped on it, but the blighter stayed alive!

Thanks Denviks, the guys asked me to dig around on the net to find out what it was, who knew that a google search for 'big buzzy thing' would have led straight to here.. :lol:

I was at a picnic one where these things started dive-bombing and colliding with people. Not me for some reason, but apparently they hurt if they hit you!

We get them down the chimney too! We have a cast iron stove, so the chimney aperture is closed off. They drop onto the steel plate and make a huge clang  :lol: Then a little later the ugly little critters find their way round the edge and charge around the room bashing into everything. They don't have a great sense of direction.

And as said earlier, they are close to indestructable  :shock:

The bat comment is interesting. There are definately more bats around this year and we have had fewer of these bugs in the house.

 We had one of these in the garden Sabre Wasp ,I just had to look it up as it scared the bejizzas out of me  :shock: turns out it's harmless (if I'd known that it might still be alive :twisted:)

It's a Cockchafer or Maybug.  Basically a cross between a squash ball and a snitch.  We had one career through the window yesterday evening.  They're the devil's own job to untangle from furry pets.  Never had one hit the windscreen, but I think you'd notice it :)
