Silicone Hoses TD5

Where is the best place to get them? As far as I can work out, some come with just the hoses and some ally tubes as well. Is it worth getting the ally tubes or are they just for blingage? Is it worth getting them now with a stage 1 tune or wait untill I get the intercooler in? someone mentioned it might be worth it with the stage 1.

Me  ;) - with a discounted price for you!! - obviously there are other places.

Alloy/stainless tubes, really just for bling and only one on a Td5 - but I can supply one at the same time if needed!

My hoses are gloss black, as I'm not a fan of the bright coloured ones!! - plus black looks more standard if you 'forget' to mention to your insurance company about the mods lol.

Even with a stage 1, they are a worthwhile upgrade - just don't expect another 100bhp!

Get rid of your EGR too  ;)

It'd be good if someone without a vested interest in selling kit could provide a useful answer.  ;)

From my point of view.... de-lamination internally of hoses - so they start to break up and either split or I have come across one that when boost pressure was made a section of hose actually (partially) blocked air flow.

Standard hoses (especially pre intercooler) are very thin, and only made from a few layers of cheaper silicon/ply lined hose - which means they contract and expand more than a thicker ply, uprated hose.  This can lead to the hose splitting prematurely and loss of performance due to the hose expanding and contracting - thus very fractionally increasing turbo lag.

IMHO... Land Rover hoses, while they do a good job, aren't the best (i.e. a compromise between performance and cost) and can be improved upon in terms of qulaity, heat resistance and longevity.  And... my silicon hoses look better than standard 8)

I agree - sound , trustworthy technical advice , straight from the horses mouth  so to speak,  is hard to come by!!

....and it's not particularly objective.  :roll:

Here's how it sits from out point of view. We've pulled blatantly commercial posts in the past, and we see no reason to stop doing so. Forums are great for spreading technical advice etc, but if someones business is blatantly going to benefit from their own posts, then I think we'd probably deserve a share of the profits.

Advice being given we can handle, but blatant product plugs is a step too far, I'm afraid.

Ian is suggesting one place to get the pipes from, its ultimatley the choice of the customer where he gets his parts from, he asked for a suggestion and Ian suggested an answer.  I for one was greatful for his advice and will be tacking my custome to him but I did do my own research and found the advice he had given was good sound advice.  If you don't like it turn the channel over! Uuh, not wishing to be rude, but if you check the status above my avatar you'll see why I won't be turing over.  ;)

I'm glad your question got sorted (I quite trust Pornys work, myself), but the Club has a viewpoint whether folk like it or not, and it's my role here to ensure things run kinda tickityboo from a club standpoint.
