« on: May 19, 2008, 18:24:28 »
Guys.... can any of you give me a brief run down of how Skype works

I have heard of it but what is needed to use it :-k

Please use plain language as I am light years away from being the most technically minded person around

After getting caught twice phoning a mate in Sweden @ £25-00 for just over an hour i got Angie to download it from t'internet.
I'm pretty clueless with computers but i think it's a fairly painless operation.
I then found a web cam thingy in Maplins with an intergrated mike about £12-00 i think.
Hey presto free calls and you can see who your talking to(not a pretty sight if you know Dazzawhipple  )

Not much use but i don't think there's much to it  8-[

You use Skype by connecting a microphone and speakers to your sound card, or by using a headset. All you need to know is the other person's Skype username.

Skype can also be used to call land lines in various countries for the cost of a local phone call in that country.

It can be rather less than wonderful - I've tried it on two PCs, and couldn't get it to work properly on either.

I use it quite a bit, and it works well. Another alternative would be windows live messenger.
They can both be used with a cam and mike, and are about the same standard for reception. Skype does seem to be a tad better for some parts of the world, Messenger is better in others.
Load both systems and see what the people you want to talk to have.

My boss uses it to talk to suppliers in the far east he sends samples to them then calls them with skype to discuss the bits and he can point and show them what he's talking about.

Easy to use. You dont need a Skype phone or headset. Just type. Internet phones just make it easier. Ive used it since day 1. Its fantastic. And it has recenlty sped up too. File exchanging is faster than a year ago. I use it to talk to the members in my Off-Road club. :)

Thanks for the info guys :)

I have downloaded it and created an account. To me it looks similar, in some ways, to MSN Messenger or Yahoo :-k
