Ignore it and sweep it under the carpet until a later date, just like everything else.

The main problem that I see with is the loss what little Public support we have. It'll be interesting to see what happens next.

Can I have your BMW squad car if you strike, as MOD will probably be tasked with trying to provide cover if you do.

Ok that's a really scary though, load of people with training and experience in war zone peace keeping trying to police a peacefull country!!!

The scarey thing is that deep down the government might actually want the armed force doing the jobs because they see the unrest and the increase ine disatisfied people. A military presence may just make them feel a little more comfrotable in their ivory towers!

Almost certainly this puerile Government will spin the situation to their advantage and you'll end up with nothing more than you have already ~ which is not enough, IMHO.

One thing to consider though; if the Gov't continue to deny you the right to strike but you go ahead and do it anyway, what can they do to you? There aren't enough prison places to jail 140,000 officers and if they sack you all they leave the country completely devoid of police.

Perhaps what you need is a mass resignation with every officer under the rank of Inspector handing in their notice on the same day

What Gollum and his cronies would do is invoke Emergency Powers, give Special Constables, Police Community Support Officers and other Tom, Dick or Harry involved in 'Community Safety', full Police powers, which would cause chaos.
You would end up with the likes of the 'B Specials' in Northern Ireland during the early days of 'The Troubles'. It doesn't bear thinking about.

That's just disturbing - the Neighbourhood Watch Alliance in power (anyone else who has seen Hot Fuzz will understand )

Seriously, I think Rich has it right - this government has pretty much always responded to things they don't like by ignoring them and having their media buddies make sure it doesn't get airtime. However, after their recent drubbing in local government elections and with the BBC beginning to grow some round objects again post-Hutton that might not work this time!

I thought Jan Berry gave Jacqui Smith a right going over at the police conference. Here question: "Home Secretary, what is it that Mr Balls has but you do not?" was an absolute corker

The Police rank and file could, in theory, vote 100% in favour of striking but any government would simply over ride it and make it against the law :-.

The swines thought about doing this to the fire brigade it in years gone by when I was a serving fireman.... if the government wants to do something then they will do it :'(

The only way to fight back is to start a revolution.... "power to the people" as Woolfie Smith used to say.... ha ha we only have the power that the government want us to have :(

That's not going to happen, but if there is a strike it will damage the police service badly. I believe all police officers will loose the respect of the public.

Not a fan of the idea of a police strike.. remember the storylines in Robocop?!

However, from what my sister & her man (Scottish Cops) say whenever they relate their day to day stories, there is a lot og good will work done by the rank and file police. Spending extra hours covering things when they should have been off shift, giving up rest days etc. Not sure working to rule is illegal... but it would have an impact.

Keep up the good work the boys and girls in blue!

She did, but sat there very arrogantly saying that nothing is going to change. Disapointing.
