Defintion of the word 'Politician', according to the Lord Shagg-Pyle concise English Dictionary

"A person who thinks that they are beyond reproach, who forgets that they are elected to serve the best interests of the populace, who forgets that they have two eyes (to see the truth) two ears (to hear the truth), but who insists on using their mouth to spout complete lies and fabrications so as to keep themselves in a job for as long as possible, while screwing the country (and office staff or the odd Cheeky Girl)) to get as much as possible out of it before 'retiring from Public life to spend more time with the family' (or in other words, jumping before they are pushed). In summary a lieing, untrustworty, smarmy git"

Do I belive that report? No. But it is a sign that an election is looming.

Its a bit late for me... sadly due to high fuel, tax and maintenance costs I am trading the T2 in for a 7 seat car. However will be keeping my eye out for a small fun 4x4 to play in!
If want to walk it walk it, if you want to ride it ride it just leave me alone to drive it!

I have done just that. I arranged a posting to a station a couple of miles from home and now cycle there and back. It certainly is better for me, the bank balance and the environment, but I sure as hell will not sell the Disco. I'll not be told what to do by a load of dictatorial hypocritical eco commies.
I was bemused but not surprised watching the news last night about Gollum Broon chairing a meeting with the Oil Barons about the high price of oil. He and all his crawling butt licking cronies turn up in big fuel chewing Jags.
Double standards? Of course. Thats what this bunch of legalised highway robbers are good at.

Whilst I concur with the conclusion of your definition I find I must take exception to the idea that politicians are elected to serve the best interests of the populace .. they are, actually, elected to serve the will of the population. The idea that the voters will (i.e. their wishes) coincide with their best interests is a myth started by said politicians as a way of ignoring the wishes of the public.

What really gets my goat is the way politicians start to answer questions with the phrase "I think" ~ the absolute tripe they then spout (which, often as not, doesn't address the actual question asked but simply repeats the party political broadcast they used to answer the previous question) makes it abundantly clear that they haven't had a rational or original thought in years. I'd like to host one of those Radio 4 political programmes. The first time a politician didn't answer the question they were asked I'd send 'em packing with a flea in their ear. Course, I wouldn't have the job for long  :P
