hello,
i have exacly the set up your talking about, i couldnt draw a diagram, ( not clever enough  )

but you need a double poled switch do somthing with that and wallah,

you need to wire them up with a source coming from the main beam power source to activate the relays and then attach a swicth into that at a sensible place so you can turn this function off, you also need another switch with a seperate power input to give power to the relays when main beams not on, i would suggest taking the power from a source that still works when ignition is off, with reguards to that each vehicle is differant. bear in mind that for the second function to work the first function switch will need to be turned on.

if like me you have four spot lights then it might be worth putting them on two seperat cercuits to be safe and not overload the wires ( as i did  ) all that means is you will have three switches two of which will need to be connected to spot lights and main beam and both be turned on to use, and the third to be connected to an alternate power source meaning all three need to be turned on to work

that is how to do it and that circuit works without a doubt as i have it i know, but im sre theres other ways to do it and more help full ways to explain it,

hope ive helped, cheers kieran

This document on Devon 4x4 might help.

Just click on Simple diagram for wiring auxiliary loads such as driving lights with a relay You just need to put a secound feed to a three position switch from your headlight switch. Can't remember the wire colour, sure someone will say soon enough.
