the anti 4 x 4 lot hate us anyway

i'm less magnanimous than many - during the last floods white van man went past me on a Road Closed sign - came upon him stuck in a ford - effing and blinding that his boss would kill him!!

towed him out and charged him £25

and gave the £25 to Cancer Research

Money was offered for recovery, but i refused - trying to promote good 4x4 use.

The Road was closed for this flood, with signs on every road up to it.

I poped down there once a day after work to see if i could help anyone out.

Surely thats good promotion of 4x4 use?

The people i resuced seemed to think so  , and there was no one about, except my Mrs when i did go though it

Personally I stay clear of water unless I have to, as flood water frequently contains raw sewage (if the drains have overflowed).

I don't think what we do makes a lot of difference. It only takes one idiot to go charging around and flooding houses, oncoming cars, etc then we all get the blame after the media blows the problem up. That lone idiot is probably the same one who was ignoring a TRO last weekend or ripping up a greenlane, and there's nothing we can do about them.

If the flood is in the middle of nowhere (therefore most likely just muddy water) and there are no houses or other vehicles to damage then I don't see how it can do any harm to ford it and take a few photos.

It was not a pop at you Mark i was just expressing my view to what the anti's will think that was all!!! and i myself would do the same and pull someone out if they were stuck only if there good looking i just feel somethimes as soon as the floods arrive people abuse it with there 4x4 (not everyone) but another way to look at it as well people see you drive through the road closed sign and think " look at that 4x4 ignoring signs etc etc"  just more fuel or may even turn someone who has nothing against 4x4 owners against us!!!

Its always hard to please everyone - be that us lot, or antis..

Im 100% sure that the people that were stuck up to their door handles in muddy water were pleased i popped down to check if anyone needed a hand.

Whilst i was recovering, there must have been 30 other cars that had gone past the sign and got to the flood and changed their mind.

Regardless of what anyone says, ive been in a situation where i needed a hand, and there is nothing more pleasing that when you are in that position, someone goes out of their way to help.

Sorry Mark, I've had to edit out your image as it was cripplingly slow to load - a bit too memory intensive, I'm afraid and it weren't half sucking up the bandwidth!

A static version of the piccy would be ideal.

I was out in it today, clearing up the mess caused by moronic drivers on the A3. We all sat there at briefing and got the time spot on. 8.00am on the dot. 3 car pile up, caused by driving too close and aquaplaning. Numpties!

Don't tell me, none of them had lights on either?

Drives me nuts when I see people dawdling along with no lights on in rough weather. Just because they can see other people doesn't mean that other people can see them, and I'd rather buy new bulbs a bit earlier than be hit by someone who didn't see me.

You got it! And of course the old favourite "They stopped so suddenly, I had to stamp on the brakes really hard, and my brakes failed" Hmm, of course they did! Well sir, now your car is the same length as a Smart car, but not quite as efficent. Cocks!

If a flood is on my way I will go through but I won't go out of my way to find them...

However I did turn around and go the other way last year ,the flood was only a foot deep but it was outside a terrace of houses and the waves caused by other people were going straight into the houses while the owners were trying to bail them out .

I got a lot of thumbs up from them and most of the cars behind me also turned round...
so many hills , so little time ....
