bulkhead replacement
« on: May 31, 2008, 16:33:44 »
well the tin worm have finaly eaten to much of my bulkhead to meet the mot mans requirements so i'm going to fit a nice shiney new one

theres plenty of posts on here re the wiper bracket, loom route etc so i reckon it shouldnt be to bad a job, however

do i need to unbolt my roof or touch the headlining? the back of the landy is all ply lined etc with lockers and i have a ply bulkhead fitted above the standard rear one.

i'm thinking i can just get away with undoing the "hinges" for the windscreen and pulling the bulkhead forwards and out?  [-o<

I didn't remove my hardtop but did have to lift it up by 2 or 3 inches. To do this I removed the two mountings behind each front seat (behind the seatbelts) & removed the mountings halfway along the hardtop in the rear loadbed, that attach the hardtop to the bodycapping/tub.
You'll probably have to remove the front headlining to access the bolts along the top of the windscreen.
Unless it's an early hinged windscreen, it will have four large dowels in the top edge of the bulkhead that protrude into the lower edge of the windscreen, so you won't be able to slide the screen out without lifting it upwards first.

Paddock were advertising Defender bulkheads in the LR magazines for £205. I can't find them listed on their website though.

only trouble with paddocks is they wont deliver bulkheads

with the price of diesel it would cost me more to pick one up from paddocks than get one delivered from liverpool
