GPS Tracker - I just bought one.
« on: June 10, 2008, 18:31:52 »
I just bought one.

Dead easy to use. Stick a SIM card in (£1 new), call it and it texts back with a detailed grid reference and speed.

This is a typical 16 digit lat/long reference - 41 54 08.03n, 12 26 27.11e - my house.

Ha!

I didn't want to put the location of my house (and therefore the location of my Disco) on on the internet - just in case any lowlife scumbags are using MC as a way of locating potential motors.  :police:

As you can see, 16 figure lat/long references are very accurate. In this case,  I put the Pope's pad on instead.

Sadly not. But you can set it so you are informed when it goes past a certain speed or travels out of a set radius.

I like it. :)
I think I might buy one & fit it as a tracker to use if my motor is ever stolen.

My Disco only seems to do around 700 miles before she breaks down. Given that a tankful (Very rare it is full) gives 500 yards I should be able to find her by walking around the block :)

Does it have to go in the engine bay? I took my alarm sensor (between the sun visors) out, wired up a +ve feed and power socket and then put the sensor back. Hey presto - out of sight, on charge and probably never underwater.

I'll probably fit it under the dash so it's hard for any thief to spot or get at.
Belive it or not, I seem to end up under water all to often.   I even managed to drown the alarm system on my last motor.
