Just looked at the online aberystwyth cambrian news but cant see any news articles about it.

Any other way we can read the article?

I also think that them having a plain silver 90 is good ...

They are more likely to catch the bikes/cars etc in a plain car as it won't look out of place

Good luck to them....

Hey, if it means we get to keep the right to drive the lanes I'm all for it. Dyfed Powys Police have had a marked white Defender 110 driven by a PCSO on similar duties for a while now, although I've yet to see it out on the lanes.

it seems to be parked at the start of Claerwen quite often.

I have just spoken to the FC manager for around here and there is going to be a lot more of this going on, as they are fed up of finding vehicles where they shouldn't be, so be warned.
No-one got done on this particular exercise, but several people were warned and given advise on where they could go. He understands that they had driven/riden passed notices that state no vehicles.

All FC personel now note numbers of vehicles in the Forest or parked "suspiciously" nearby, especially at weekends.

Swings and roundabouts i suppose, Shouldnt a police precence be as much to deter as anything else?

does seem a bit crafty, same sort of argument as unmarked police cars. in my opinion i think they should stick to what they were originally for (undercover op's etc). have heard too many stories of irrisponsible police officers hammering these often high performance cars and then nicking anyone who has a go at keeping up.

You dont see many marked cars round these days and it leads people into thinking they are less likely to get caught pulling stupid stunts etc. get a police car on the road and all surrounding people drive like they are on their test (and are reminded of how low the speed limit actually is)

Don't get me wrong here, I think its great that there is a move to try and stop illegal and irresponsible off roading, BUT!!

If there is an officer or two parked up at the start of Claerwen quite often, where are the officers nicking the pikeys and there souped up corsas doing doughnuts and driving like idiots??

I'd be well peed off to find that other aspects of policing are falling by the wayside for what is a relatively small minority!

We will loose all our lanes JUST  because of irresponsible lane users, greenlanes are still a public highway and should be policed as such.

There are people that live on these lanes and the deserve as much a police presecents and respect as every one eles in our land,

People bang on about how police funds should be spent..farmers, and villagers also pay their taxes and deserve the same police coverage.

Do you get annoyed by the motto crosser bikes whizzing past your house.. well so do people in the country.. would you want some one ripping up your land that you use to make a living on?

If so bang you name here, I reckon we could get a crowd to turn your spuds.

The police are there to work on all our behalf

In many ways I agree with you Drift, people in the country DO deserve as much police coverage, but the hard reality is WE don't. The town I live in has 6 police, so that is 2 on duty at any one time! So if Pembrokeshire hadn't closed all the lanes down then we would be in the position that the boy racers (that the police don't have the resources to catch now!) would have an even free'er reign to play about!

Our nearest traffic car is 15 miles away, but we are a low priority as Haverfordwest, Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock are bigger places with more cars to be caught! Every night I hear them racing through the towns 30mph limits and when they decide they've had enough they head further out to race the back roads and get onto farmers fields where they can do doughnuts without wrecking their tyres.

If this is the situation here in Pembrokeshire, then I will bet that its also the case in areas like Aberystwyth, Lampeter, Newtown etc, in other words where there are still lanes open.

The problem is, due to funding from the Government the Police HAVE to make decisions about where to place resources and now it is politically expedient to catch the minority of idiots that are causeing problems on the green lanes, next year we will probably get round to the chavs in their corsas!

Do you mean the one on the top of the Claerwen which doesn't have through access (have to turn around before the bridge)?

I've noticed the FC people doing that for a while - a few months back I pulled over in the car park by the arch to eat my sandwiches (was coming back from Aber, and it's a nicer place for an impromptu picnic than Morrisons carpark  ), an FC van came out of the forest with the driver taking a very close interest in my numberplate. The obvious question is how long are they allowed to keep records, and who controls them? With the current mob in power I find it rather disturbing that they're recording this data on people who have committed no offence whatsoever.

Matt, yes Claerwen. It is normally the lass from Rhayader there, but have been told that Traffic were there the other weekend.

FC are noting numbers informally, mostly in areas of known problems. Local manager says that it is mainly motocrossers and vans they are looking at, especially parked in out of the way car parks, but some 4x4's are noted. They have been doing around here for ages.

FC = Forestry Commission. The custodians of an awful lot of interesting trails that we don't have access to!
