Cant get stereo out of 300tdi disco....
« on: June 19, 2008, 20:43:36 »
Erm, silly question I know but is ther some kind of knack?

Just got mrs spy a 300tdi disco and her cd player needs to be fitted.  I have a set of standard hook type stereo pins and I cant get the damn thing out!  I have even tried ramming the pins right in and pulling with my fingers in the tape hole, prising it with a flat screw driver etc etc.

Cant be that hard surely?  Going to kango it out soon its driving me nuts now!  :D
Any tips?

It's been a while since I replaced mine, but I think they use the round pins? All you can really do is push them in as far as possible and wiggle them around, sooner or later it will come out. It's one of those jobs that gets easier after the first time!

it might be you have pushed the pins in the wrong side if the clips, push the pins in at an angle heading away from the radio then pull them in and pull it out otherwise it is just a jimmy it out, being careful not to scratch th dash a it will look awful

When the pins are inserted try speading them apart (outwards) and then pull gently
It should just slide out

Cheers all!  No nack then...

I took two stereos out today in work in other cars.  I do several a week so its not like its something I havent done before!  I remember years ago struggling with a nova radio and finding it was bolted at the back.  I wondered if these had something like that.  I have tried twice now to get this out!

Oh well, brute force it is then!

Drive it to any city centre car park and leave it unlocked. The local chazs will have it out in 30-secs  ;) ;)

I've just swapped out my stereo and had to go to Halfrauds to get the right wire pins.
The ones I bought have little slots in the sides of the pins - after struggling for ages I found that I had got the slots the wrong way round ie facing in rather than out. I also had been pushing them in too far - when they are the right way round I felt a slight 'click' as they slid in and I could pull the unit out easily...

Mind you - I did get very close to using a 4lb lump hammer instead

I'm doing my bit for the environment - I'm offsetting - at least, I park my V8 next to a Prius at work - does that count?

Haha, am I glad its not me!  The week before trying the stereo I did the boot floor, repaired the wheel arch, trackrod end etc and then end up posting on a forum because I cant get the damn stereo out!  The pins I have have cuts either side so it shouldnt matter but I am going to borrow another pair just in case the cuts not deep enough or whatever.

Thanks for admiting you struggled, I dont feel such a tit anymore!  :D

If the other pins dont work, I am going for chris's suggestion.  Im only 20 miles from liverpool, if I drive up there and ask around outside a nursery/primary school or something there muct be someone who can help!  ;)
