fuel & temp gauge

fuel & temp gauge just died, any ideas on were to start with this, electrics not being one of my favourites...1979 88' s111 got the dash out and connections still in place from what i can see, is there anything that they are both conncted to as they went off together, also can't find me manual....

They're connected to a voltage stabiliser, which in turn is connected to the fusebox. Check your brake lights, they're running off the same fuse.

Yes.

I beleive its quite common for the fuse connectors to corrode. That happened on mine. I had to remove the fuses and shine-up the holder with wire/wool and contact cleaner.  Did that and it worked fine.

To the eye it did not look to bad, just so you know its worth trying even if you cant see too much fuzz etc.

I agree with whats been said the fuse box is the best place to start, get behind it to the connectors, try moving them around and watching your gauge

cheers folk, funny thing is i put the dash back just before it got dark this evening, turned the ignition on and up they went again. I suppose thats landy's for you....will have a peak at the fuse box and behind it in the morning.

Sounds like a corroded contact somewhere- probably in the fuse box.  Be ready for when it dies as you drive along :)

It's cetainly worth cleaning those contacts otherwise you'll get something delicate and expensive to fix hitting you up the rear when the brake lights fail.

the series I had did this as well. I found whilst all bolted together and moving along if I pulled the top of the dash towards me a little bit the needles went up, when I let go the needles dropped again! Didnt matter how many times I removed the dash to find out why it always happened and never did find the fault!
