Is the leak from the pinion seal?
I had a leak there on my rear diff and the advice I was given was to get the garage to do it because you might need special tools and if you must do it exactly right (note: you don't set the nut to a specific torque) or you can cause serious damage to the axle and/or prop shaft from using it afterwards.

Gas Main works are like ants... You never see them in the winter, but once the summer arrives they appear everywhere.

Changing the pinion shaft/bearings is an involved job requiring the right shims to preload it just right, but just changing the pinion seal is not to bad a job to DIY. The big nut is done up to a proportionally high torque so a good breaker bar or T bar with a length of pipe to extend it will most likely be required. That or a good impact drive.

While yor at it, check the axle breather pipe. This might be blocked, causing the axle to preasurise and force oil past the seal.
