300TDI EDC Turbo / Power Problem
« on: July 01, 2008, 21:06:06 »
Hi All

I will try to explain what I have been told to see if one/some of you knowledgable people have an idea what the problem is -

When driving my EDC Auto if you go to overtake for example, you want power, so the turbo should be building up pressure to keep up with the extra power.

My turbo seems to be working ok, but for some reason is not holding the pressure, I get to 2500-3000rpm and it dumps the pressue, check engine light flashes on, rev's drop then get's back to about 3000rpm and does it again and again with the check engine light flashing on and off and there is also a lot of black smoke which is saying enough fuel is getting there, but there is a shortage of air from the turbo.

EGR unit has been removed

Silicone pipes fitted with larger intercooler

Hope I have explained it ok

Does anyone know how the turbo works and is controlled

Being the EDC engine, I have an air flow meter inline with the air intake

All I can see is one electrical connection for the turbo going into a metal brick screwed the to the engine bulkhead just below the wipers

I am going to use 10K Boost to see if this cleans the turbo

I have had this problem since owning the Disco and I have only just managed to get my friend to take it for a test drive but not knowing how this works it is difficult for him to help troubleshoot it.

im no expert on turbos mate but i would be looking at the wastegate which is located under the turbo charger and controls the amount of boost the turbo produces by dumping the excess,i dont know but im guessing there could be a diaphram in there that has packed up or perished.Have you checked all the turbo hoses are good and not split,or getting sucked flat?also i would check the wastegate pipe work as well because things get really hot in that department

You should have purchased a manual, disco,
what colour is the smoke black blue or white?
Newer red and grey disco to save confusion,

Ramsey Pro8000 winch
Safari Snorkel
Qt Diff Gauards
Bfg Muds
Procomp steering guard
