Power steering stiff!!
« on: July 04, 2008, 19:41:16 »
Help pleeeaase.

Just travelled back from Canterbury and noticed the steering getting lumpy. Was pretty loaded so put some air in tyres but no improvement.

Going to Broxhead on Sunday so have to cure quickly... Got home checked resevoir and it needed about half an inch to bring it up to full mark. Ran engine and turned from lock to lock and checked level again and was fine.

sprayed wd40 on all steering shaft uj's and left to soak ,turned lock to lock again, then topped up swivel housings with practically nothing.

Took out and turned round and round in road....no difference. Sprayed steering shaft with spray grease.. no difference.

From centre to lock it takes four lumpy jumps.....What else can I do chaps or is it new pump (ouch)!  and can I still do Broxhead with lumpy steering???

drip some thin oil in the uj's on the shaft between the steering box and the steering column, if a load of rusty oil come's out,it was partially seized.

The last time I had a UJ on the steering shaft sieze I ended up bathing it in WD40 for a while before it freeded up properly.
