a mate of mine has had his 90 stolen in broad daylight in the middle of the peak district.

he tucked it out of the way so visibility from a road wasn't possible, still they had it away.

I suppose middle of the day they get bored in there caravans bare knuckle fighting so they might as well go a nick something.

so this leads me to ask, what can be done to immobilise a td5 completely, so only the rightful owner can drive it?

i know you will never stop people getting into one but stopping them 100% from driving it away would be good.

What points you in the direction of the traveller community in particular? and which particular part of the Peak District. Thieving scumbags come in all shapes and often have pre arranged locations to take their kill - often a workshop where the parts are broken down and sold individually.

As for being able to prevent it, there have been reports on previous threads like this about a device that prevents the clutch being used. An old trick my dad told me about (during the war) was to remove the rotor arm - not so easy these days perhaps.

The other of course is a tracker but they are difficult to hide in a Defender - however I know of two people who have recovered their Disco's with trackers AND allowed the Police to arrest those who took them, so I also have one fitted now.

I guess it all depends on the method by which the vehicle is being stolen - if it's by breaking into your house, nicking the car keys and simply driving off, then something as simple as removing the fuel pump relay or fuse would render the vehicle inoperative...........

Mines got a little key fob immobiliser on it - i know this can be bypassd fairly easily, but it should stop chancers and delay someone a little..

I also remove the steering wheel from it at night, and hide it in it when its not parked at home.

Im going to get a 'clutch claw' at some point in my life, and a riser bar for the driveway.

There are loads of ways of immobilising a vehicle. A cut out switch that cuts the power to the fuel pump or coil is easy enough to sort out. With the switch well hidden, it would take a thief (house or caravan dweller) quite a while to work out what was wrong.

Thats what i was on about - its called a clutch claw.

massive lump of yellow metal that fits over the clutch and break pedal - idea being that the clutch and brake work as one.

Ive taken the approach that i want to stop the satnav theives ie chancers and also cause as long a delay as possible

so ive gone with paddlocked back door and a carvan type secure door locks for the front.  ive got a sinle shock alarm with tilt sensor so if it gets dragged onto a lorry i can hear it or some one gets in.    it will at least wake me as i never leave it too far away unless it cant be helped.

Id rather them break glass or force a door than just take it away.  police came around thou and took prints and reckon they have them on file and building up a case so if you have a minnor break in its worth reporting as your minnor one might add to a long list and get them sent away for longer.

thats all ready done, my GBBFO rottie  at 9 stone  at 19 mounths old [buster]  wont let eany one up the back off my house where my range rover it parked or let eanyone get in it ourther than famley, gos mad like the pickey found out one night     :lol:      :-k note to self need to fix   window and put  beware of dog stickers up    :-k  :-k may be not beware off dog stickers its more fun watching them poop them self and running down the street

there is something on the market called either blue jacker or black jacker. what i does is when you start the vehicle a l e d flashes at you and you press a series of buttons not as big as a key pad. it ill ask you this 2more times if you don't put the code in. but you can still drive it. on the 3rd attempt it simply kills the car (when at a safe speed) leavin the theives stranded with a dead car. i think the whole proccess takes about 20 secs so their a safe distance away while you can ring the police.

as the name suggests it was designed for car jacking and is very effective as there is minimal danage to the car other than a kerbed alloy!

I've got a Spyeye, another South African device that unfortunately doesn't doesn't use propane.. But it is good for alerting you to intruders, and has a range of around 100m.

just to add my 2 penneth i got a discloc and tho may not be invicible think there pretty good, my parents go staying at a camp site nr buxton and apparently all the farmers landys have been nicked from around there recenlty,

 Clipable ECU which make it removable easily, when you need to leave it in a place where it may be stolen, It is possible that someone may have an  ECU but they will also need something like nanocom to set injector codes to get the engine to run properly(if my understanding is correct it will run but not very well possibly just tick over).
 Another alternative would be to either remove fuses to ECU or put a relay in to all 12V positive(direct feeds from battery) to the ECU and switch that controls them all place the switch out of sight (would baffle some-one replacing ECU).

i've got a Cat 1 immobiliser on my Disco, and use a disc-lok if i park it anywhere not on camera.

i've had a landrover nicked, which had a proper tracker in it (£400 worth) and it was never seen again.. total waste of money because they rely on the police actually getting off their backsides and finding it...  :roll: which is the biggest problem.
