VIN number decoding
« on: July 10, 2008, 19:24:39 »
Hi all

I've got the microfiche, so the bulk of the VIN makes sense, However, it doesn't explain the 'AA' or 'CA' part immediately before the serial number.

My VIN ends with AA307827.

I'm trying to identify the correct rear propshaft which changed at CA252578 according to most suppliers. I assume mine is after this just based on the serial number? But what is the 'CA' bit?

Thanks for that. However, the plot now thickens!

That suggests that an AA is model year 1983-1984..... mine is supposed to be a 1988  :? It was certainly an 'E' registration. Hmmm.......

Hi all

theres something odd here. Ive just entered my VIN into that calculator and it says that mine is model year 1983,1984. now my V5 leads me to believe that mines an 86 and it is a D plate. So did it sit about for a couple of years before it was registered or is the calculator wrong? :-k

It is possible that it sat around! or maybe it was factory use or something?

its not very good with mine, it tells me that it is EITHER an 1989 to 1994 200 series OR a 1994 to 1998 300 series!!

I was pointed to this a couple of years ago and found it very good with series vehicles, but perhaps its not so good with the more modern ones?
