 hi all do everyone know what the proper speed limits are for car and hgv's so here goes

Motorway  is it 70 mph or 80 mph for cars

Motorway is it 70 mph or 60 mph for lorries

duel carrigeways 70 mph or 60 mph for cars

duel carrige ways 60 mph or 50 mph for lorries

single roads  is it 70 mph or 60 mph for cars

single carrige ways 60 mph or 40 mph for lorries.

I will pm you with the correct answer to each one if you cant get it right these are the correct speed limits for the uk but why do people get in their cars and think it dont apply to them I personally think if you are caught them a max fine of £1000 and banned for 12 mths then if you want to break the law then you should pay the price if you get caught

Ok, this is a difficult one, what are the speed limits on the same type of roads for non-emergency journeys made by an Ambulance?  I'm not referring to Service Operational Instructions, just the Law.

iirc duel carrigeways 70 mph or 60 mph for cars. Most duel carrigewys are 60mph but some with hard shoulder and centre barriers are 70mph. so both could apply.

Heres one for you, which road sign has 3 EQUAL length arrows all going in the same direction, and nothing else on the sign??  ;)

Isn't that the chevron sign used to warn of a sharp bend? Arrows are all pointing in the direction of the bend.

All hgv's are limited to 40 on single carrigeways and 56 on motorways and dual carrigeways where natinal speed limit applies, coaches are resricted to 60 on single carrige and 63 in all other circumstances.

And graeme is correct, dual carriageway is 70mph only if there is a central barrier.

they have missed out that all post 2003 7.5 trucks have been limited down to 56 mph and should not use the 3rd lane of the motorway

Are allowed to do 60 single lane and 70 dual carriage-ways but what about Solihulls finest creations?  My 110 has a MGW of 3500 kgs (with HD springs) am I only allowed to do 50 on single lane roads and 60 on the motorway? or is this a case of the law being a donkey?

Ambulance Single 50mph Dual 50mph Motorway 70mph.

Most Ambulance Services also have Operational Instructions that may state 40mph as a maximum speed on single carriage-ways with a patient on board if the journey is not an emergency.

As far as I know, there's not a restriction on minibuses using the third (or more) lane on a Motorway, not sure about Buses, but Coaches seem to use those lanes.  Unless a Bus driver in here knows different.

A 110 isn't a car-derived van.

If you have a commercial 110, and it's not PLG Taxation Class on your V5, then the Goods Vehicle Speed Limits (up to 7.5 tonnes) apply.  Single 50mph, Dual 60mph, Motorway 70mph.

I can't see your 110 weighing over 7.5 tonnes.

From my rather battered memory  lol  the V5 says Light Goods Vehicle, but I do a yearly battle with MoT testers who insist it's class 7 commercial when in fact according to VOSA it's Dual Purpose class 4... 110 Hardtop by the way...


The last place I tried to have it tested at said too heavy for the ramps - 50 kilos too heavy, when laden - ramps were only rated for 3000 kgs  :| ho hum.  In the end I went to a more sensible tester a bit further away who will get all my (MoT) business from now on...who put in on 2000 kilo ramps   :shock:
