slip roads who has right of way

Heres is one for you all. If you are going up a dual or motor way and you are approching a slip way coming on to the road and a vehicle is coming onto your road  what do you do. is it.

A, Slow down to make the vehicle behind you slow down and let them in.

B, move over to the next lane even if there are vehicles coming up behind you and force them to slow down

C, Hit your brakes to avoid an accident with the vehicle coming on and making everyone eles come to a stand still.

D, keep at same speed and if they have not reach the speed limit by the time they pull out hit them up the rear.

You will be surprised at what the answer will be

I always though that you give way to vehciles coming from the right.
So the person on the slip road ( or on ramp) must slot in with the traffic on the main road.
I know this is not the case in the Uk though.
cars on the slip road expect you to get out of their way !!!

Yes I thought if you are joining a carriageway using a slip road the idea is to ajust your speed to slip into the traffic, the reason a slip road is so called, or if need be to stop and wait until it is clear to join if very busy.Though these days people seem to simply push out straight in front without a care for any other road users,  and while we are on the subject you always get the idiot behind you whilst you have slowed down or stopped to join traffic thinks he will be a clever dick and pull out and over take you when its clear to join the road :doh:

As far as i remember when entering from a slip way you must give way to traffic from the right, so i have to go for D

I think is that the driver joining the mway has to match thier speed and join, if they have to stop to give way then so be it (imagine a q for example). The car on the m way should maintain speed but iff possible pull into the middle lane to make it easier/safer. There is some overriding rule I beleive about "not causing any other motorist to change speed or direction" unless you have right of way. Also I hate it when you come onto a m may an someone slows down right next to you and "lets" you pull int a gap 2 feet in front of them, sometimes they sit in your blind spot despie there being no traffic on the mway.

This is an example where high performance cars are so much nicer.

The answer is none of the above. First make sure that they don't have their dog in the car, then flash your lights and move over into the middle lane (this instills a nice warm sense of security) but do not reduce your speed until your front end is level with their rear. When they have happily installed themselves in the inside lane sharply apply left hand down. This initiates what our American cousins call the pit maneuver and they spin merrily away leaving you free to indicate and safely move back into the inner lane. Sorted.

    * give priority to traffic already on the motorway
    * check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane
    * not cross solid white lines that separate lanes or use the hard shoulder
    * stay on the slip road if it continues as an extra lane on the motorway
    * remain in the left-hand lane long enough to adjust to the speed of traffic before considering overtaking

D I say, but what irritates me is people who use the line as a give way, so they stop before pulling onto the motorway, instead of accelerating and matching the speed of the motorway.  We saw a micra almost wiped out by a lorry because he did just that!!!

Actually I'd go for B on the basis that anyone coming up behind me is obviously speeding (because I will be travelling at the posted speed limit) so by pulling out in front of them and making them slow down I am a) making the road safer for everyone and b) saving them from getting a speeding ticket from the Police car I just pulled over to allow into lane 1 and they haven't yet seen :twisted:

 Interesting the the question is about what you do if you are on the dual carriageway or motorway and not about you coming down the slip road. most of you seem to have answered as if you are coming down the slip road.

Bear in mind that the speedo on a Disco 1 is known to read high by a few mph - according to GPS I have to be doing nearly an indicated 75 for an actual 70. So they're not necessarily speeding.

Had one of them a few months back - approaching junction, see him coming down the slip road so pull out to let him on as it's clear, he then proceeds to sit on my left hand rear wing at 70mph for about two miles then undertakes. Class one prat - why not let me back in then pass legally?

Surely if the driver coming on from the slip road has already pulled out in front of you then "C". Regardless of who has the right of way you should avoid an accident.
