Hi is it possible to buy a kit so i can convert my series to coil from leaf spring? or do i have to make something myself
There used to be a kit made (late 80s early 90s) that allowed you to fit coils to the rear of a Series.
Basically it put a coil spring between the top of the axle and the chassis above it and had a link in place of the front half of the leaf spring to act as a radius arm....you could probably get away with cutting leaf springs in half and using just the top leaf. It will also require more damping as there will be no damping effect from the friction between leafs.
An more modern alternative would be to fit an old 90 rear axle. This would require some brackets on the chassis for radius arms and coil springs (IIRC the drivers side radius arm link will end up 'in' the fuel tank so mods there too :) The fabrication aside, the rear drum braked rear 90 axles are 2 a penny as most people upgrade to a disc braked Disco or RR axle, but your Series already has drums all round so no problem :)
Front axle is an whole other kettle of worms/can of fish.
Other option would be to fit parabolic springs is you want to retain the Series 'look'.
Down sides to any coil conversion now-a-days is the likeihood of needing an SVA or at least a VIC (Vehicle Identity Check) if you modify the chassis for the coil suspension.
