I agree - I've replaced mine with a Discoparts detachable one for precisely this reason. Not tried it out yet but there's a lot more clearance under the back end now.

I know that cars built after a certain date have to have an approved towbar fitted, not sure what the date is but ours are definitely before it!

Get rid of the plow at the back and fit a detachable one, it makes much more sense if you take your machine into the mud and ruts!

Taken from http://www.stanleytowbars.co.uk/thelaw.htm

Any light passenger vehicle registered in the UK on or after August 1st 1998 ('S' Registration) will require a type approved towbar and towball (when fitted).

Light Commercial Vehicles and Car Derived Vans are not covered by Type Approval. (LCVs continue to be exempt and are unlikely to be covered for the next 5 years or so).

This legislation will not be retrospective, therefore any vehicle registered before August 1st 1998 will never require a type approved towbar (e.g. 'R' registered vehicles will never require type approved towbars).

Any vehicle requiring an approved towbar also requires an appropriately approved towball. Towball 'D' and 'S' values must match or exceed the towbar 'D' and 'S' values.

Type Approved towbars and towballs can be identified by the presence of a Type Approval label which must be visible even when the product is fitted to the vehicle. This label will have as a very minimum, the product code, a 'D' value, an 'S' value and a European approval number in the form e11 00-01234. These labels must not be removed or defaced as this will invalidate the towbar manufacturer's warranty and would result in the towbar or towball not being identified as Type Approved.

i have one of the southdown tank gaurds with detachable tow hitch on, worked absolutly great apart from i am not too high to fit a trailer on to it and that it is very heavy and does effect the suspension ride high.

but for general green laneing it is great and also can take one hell of a hit as myne has many times.

looking at it today after lower the step for an idea of height . remembering it used to catch like every other bump. im probably gonna wait till i do a plus 3 inch body lift  that way the base of the cradle will be right at  the top of the towbar holes. cover over and well ah step and winch mount .

oh one other question do britpart plus 2 inch springs hold weight at a level point with extra weight on board :-k

the brit part springs are great in my mind, there are few people using them in the club. the great thing is there is such a good selection of rates available, i am running 230 i think on the back and it sits level with bearmachs on the front (only because i havnt changed them yet).
