adjusting the turbo - 300 tdi - just checking
« on: July 26, 2008, 22:24:16 »
OK.  I say i have adjusted the Turbo on my 300TDI.  But am guessing what i am doing is correct as i cannot find any photo's for 300, only 200.

As you stand against the wing, offside (drivers side) looking at the Injector pump, above the Diaphram housing is a rod with various springs and a washer with a 'v' in the top of it which locks into opposite part (rh side of rod) the L/H side has a slotted screw type end......Hope you are still with me .....i have been winding this anti-clockwise.  Is this correct to increase turbo boost....................................................
P reg 300 tdi Discovery, very slow, sluggish and standard but i am working on it.......

I may be wrong but as I understand it the boost on the 300 TDI is pretty much at its maximum setting as standard, and they tend to melt if you fiddle with it?

To adjust the turbo you need to be by the turbo not the injection pump. The acuating rod is behind the turbo, shorten it to increase pressure.

no thats wrong . hope you have marked it . try to get it back to standard . personally i would instead of increasing turbo boost .just slightly increase the fueling and do away with the e.g.r valve. will make more overall difference . done 3 now without any probs ,, alan..

The most useful things you can do for a 300TDI are:

Lose the EGR

Lose the centre silencer and cat (if fitted), fit larger bore exhaust

Tweak the fuelling

Fit a bigger intercooler

Anything I've missed? I know some people have fitted boost gauges so they can adjust the turbo to produce the proper pressure.

Someone on here did a really good thread, photos, step by step instructions including trimming the wastegate actuator and tweaking fueling. Cant remember who though!

I think that was for a 200TDI though?
