open to suggestions
« on: August 09, 2008, 22:12:22 »
Hello Everyone,

Here is a problem of my own making and I am looking for the easiest solution. Basically two weeks ago I parked the disco a 2000 v8 in the driveway but to make room for the father in laws disabled scooter i parked it drivers door hard against the wall and climbed out the passenger side. Not thinking anything about it I used my wife's car for the next two weeks and when I went back to fire it up the central locking didn't open the doors (battery discharged) OK i thought just use the key and give it a boost, but of course I cant get near the drivers door. I thought of trying to get a lead onto the alternator output (don't know if I could reach that far up) and one onto the chassis to attach another battery but I don't know if this is possible. I am therefor open to all suggestions (apart from ones that may harm me)

Why can't you use the key on the passenger door or the boot?

if the battery is flat you should be able to open any door with a key lock ? have you tried opening the rear door? the lock should unlock i would have thought

Sorry,

I should have said, on my Disco there is only a keylock fitted to the drivers door and nowhere else I assumed all D2's were like this and when activated by the key it only unlocks the drivers door(again I assumed all were like this). There is a switch on the dash to operate the central locking.

there is only a lock on the drivers side on a d2. you will find it very difficult to do it but if you have a child small enough you could send them up into the gap in the engine bay. other wise the catch on the bonnet isnt hard to jimmy open(im told)

I never thought about trying to back feed via the starter, I shall have a look in the morning to see if it would be easier to access.

Would it be possibel to move the discovery?

For example by lifting the rear axle with trolly jacks and then pushing/pulling the discovery to get it away from the wall. I've seen for sale skates designed for putting under wheel for mozing vehicles about on.

I thought about that as well, the only problem I forsee is that its on a slight(very slight) slope. I was thinking that utilising the centre lock hand brake that would allow me to move the front and rear alternatively. I guess you are feeling how dumb I feel myself by now.

Do you have a towbar fitted? if so there might be a battery live to one of the terminals.

Yes I do have a towbar fitted, I guess you are thinking that if I can Identify a feed to the lights then I could backfeed, but for a constant feed to be present would a switch not have to be on I may be able to get my daughter to reach the colum if I can get the door open enough I reckon I have around four inches space.

You could backfeed through a light but if you have the 7S socket (white or grey) then one wire will always be live, the green one.  A wire for it is provided in the wiring loom in the RH rear corner, but unlike a RRC you can't get straight to it from outside.

I do recall RAC patrolment short out the starter in order to try unlocking the central locking system but I don't know that's much use to you.
