300TDi Brake fitting kits - what type do you have?
« on: August 12, 2008, 13:08:24 »
I have a 1996 300TDi,Non ABS, the front brake pads are very loose, the retaining pins used have a helicol spring along the shaft?  Is this right, i feel the pin with a formed wavy spring between the pad and the pin would be more appropriate, What do you have...... :-k
P reg 300 tdi Discovery, very slow, sluggish and standard but i am working on it.......

When I did mine the old ones were as follows (and replaced the same way with new parts). The retaining pin went through the caliper, through one pad, through the spring, through the other pad and through the other side of the caliper.

As I understand it the springs are to stop the pad rattling.

Oh, and if you fit EBC Greenstuff then expect them to drag for the first few miles until they bed in - I was a little worried until I consulted a friend who uses them on more conventional fast road stuff, apparently this is normal! Mine stopped dragging after about twenty miles or so and have been perfectly well behaved ever since.

Bilge rat, the do a kit for the disco with a 'wavy' type formed spring that compresses between location pin and pad, just wondered if they fit or any possible problems fitting it.  May order a set and see
