RIP Tinsley Cooling Towers J34 M1

E.ON UK Press Releases
12 August 2008 10:06
August demolition date set for Tinsley cooling towers
E.ON has today announced it will bring down the redundant Tinsley cooling towers this August Bank Holiday weekend.

The 250ft towers will be demolished in a controlled explosion in the early hours of Sunday 24th August. at 3.00 AM

Because of the need to close the M1 motorway, the timings were decided following extensive consultation with the Highways Agency, Police and other local agencies to try to minimise disruption to locals and road users.

now some off you may well be going about your off roading that weekend so its just a heads up The M1 motorway will be closed between junctions 32 and 35 from midnight on Saturday evening and for most of Bank Holiday Sunday. The A631 Tinsley viaduct lower deck between the Tinsley and Meadowhall roundabouts will also be closed.

this might cock up going north or south Clearly-signed diversions will be in place along the M18 and M62 together with local diversion routes, in order to limit any delays to road-users, but we advise drivers to allow extra time for their journeys.

"The Tinsley Towers have been a long standing landmark for the city of Sheffield and the town of Rotherham and, while many people will be sad to see them go,
i too will miss them is a shame and now the only way to know you are in South Yorkshire is the eyesore of Meadow hall Shopping Centre OR known Locally as "Meadow Hell"

It is a really good website that...I've spent hours browsing it in the past as their are some photos of place round here that have been "explored"

To be honest I@ll be sad to see em go..They are also pulling down one of the power stations over this way whicj will be very strange to see 2 on the horizon instead of 3...

But hey-ho thats progress
Hit it till it breaks then hit it some more !

No, I think you'll find that's a shopping centre, look to the other side of the motorway at another part of our industrial heritage that is being demolished to make way for 'progress', or in this case somehwere for the local scrotes to burn out stolen cars.

Ages ago they were moaning about the fact that they couldnt knock em down because it was too close to the motorway. I thought it would have been a fantastic idea to make them into the worlds biggest helter skelter!!!

I totally agree.... cooling towers are common and have no architectural merit regardless of location.... they need to be brought down if they are redundant

M'hall are offering to let people use the carparks but the best place will be the road towards Kimberworth, second exit left if you head south to the M'hall turnoff.

But everyone else will have the same idea.
