And let's hope all those 'people of dubious parentage' who have been driving the price of crude up by speculating on it have lost lots and lots of money.

I'll laugh, I have no sympathy for people who speculate on comodities.

I like the people who are saying "Diesel is getting cheaper"

No it's not, it's about the price it was a couple of months ago,  it's got a *loooong* way to go before it hits anything I'd consider cheap ..

an American friend for comparison[1] was lamenting petrol hitting $3.45 a gallon,  he asked us how we were all still alive :D

[1] Not an especially useful comparison I grant you, since the two countries are different in too dramatic a way to make any such comparison say whatever you want it to,  not to mention us having to pay the 5% knowing how to spell tax

No, I'd rather it was less than a pound a litre like it should be :)   Saying that £1.20 a litre is "cheap" just raises the bar by 20p that I'd rather not have to find.

With the new plans for satellite tracking being announced it's going to go up again and we get to pay per mile too, and we get higher road duty.

When you start accepting these plans, schemes etc you're stuffed.  If there was sufficient money, justification and reason to be able to reduce tax at £1.30 a litre, it's still present now the cost of crude has come down...

Gas is getting cheaper too, but my gas bill is still 40% higher ...

Don't say things like that on a public forum!

I am currently in the USA driving a big V8 SUV which does 16mpg (have done 2000 miles so far).  But I don't care as I'm only paying an average of $4.10 per gallon.  By comparison diesel is $4.60.  We've had the same conversation with the locals about fuel prices in the UK.  We were asked if evrything was that close that we could walk everywhere!?!?!?!

As an aside, fuel prices here have dropped daily for the past 25 days, prety much tracking the price of oil.  I wonder if it's the same back home . . . . . . ??
