Priming steering damper?

Just read another thread on another site about steering wobble, the guy was advised to prime the steering Damper?  Is this necesary, if so how?

been unhappy with the new damper i put on for a few weeks now.

I thought these were a sealed unit like a shock absorber but a different diameter i cant see anywhere on the new one i have just put on to vent it or on the one i have taken off,have you got the rubbers on at each end correctly?

All together ok, not sure if you had to pump the unit say a dozen times to get pressure build, never heard of this before.... :huh: hte comment was on the LRO website

But generally I do think the unit could be stiffer tho.  :-k

after reading your post properly this time(its early for me) i can now see what your asking,the only way i know of priming them is to work it up and down in the vice for a while to move the oil around before fitting but i would be lazy and fit it and just do some figure 8 manovers and see if that makes a difference.

Modern dampers are self-priming and have been for years.  Priming is an old-fashioned notion.  How they hell could they not be? as soon as you leave the car for a week all the oil drains to the lowest point surely :-k
