dogs and vets

our lab truffles has hurt his tail either trapping in a door or lying on his back giving the floor a shine    took him to our vets this am and they gave him pain killers saying it should be ok but if not better in 10 days to take him back then they would xray it, it cost me just under £25

Your lucky it cost's us £21.90 just to walk through the door, and in the last 4 months we have paid £4500 on the two dogs, one was £3500 and not insured and the other we got most of the grand back on the insurance.

Same thing here, took mine to the vets when he cut his tail. 

Now £350 odd out of pocket!

been looking at pet insurance and at the moment Argos seems the best with unlimited ongoing illness, (thats how i read it) any body know or recommend any others?

I always use tesco.com for my pet insurance only £22 a month to cover 1 dog and 3 cats

I use Pet Plan.  Yes they are expensive and yes the excess is high, but with an active English Springer we have had a number of claims over the years - including a tail injury (a tiny little nick which I couldn't even find, but blood all over the place and took weeks to heal, no idea how she did it).  In the first couple of years, pay-outs from claims more than covered the premiums.  They say they will pay for the treatment of an ongoing condition for the remainder of the dog's life - luckily I have yet to test them on this.  However, I have always found that they acknowledge the claim near enough by return of post and they have always paid out.  On occasion claims have needed to be supported by Willow's vet, including when they paid for her to be spayed following a phantom pregnancy - usually they will not pay for such otherwise elective surgery, only for complications which arise.

We also use Pet Plan and I agree that they are a bit pricey but my youngest lab who is three was diagnosed with arthritis in his front legs at only eighteen months and has had to have two operations costing the thick end of four grand and will have to be on medication for the rest of his life. Payplan paid for both the Ops and continue to pay for his meds which are several hundred pounds a year. We have to pay the excess each year but that comes to much less than the total for the medication. So I would obviously recommend them. Obviously like all insurance, it is only worth the money when you have to claim but I will never have another dog without it.

Used to be with Petplan but would never use them again after what they did with our pup. 10 years on she has been insured steadily with Tesco and they have been great. Always paid promptly and never moaned even though she always seems to be in poor health. They have upped the premiums understandably but I am now paying monthly what Petplan were charging me 11 years ago :shock:

insurance wanted more to insure my 3 yr old jack russell this year than i pay to insure my disco :shock: so it got cancelled

I would have a feel of his tail to see if there is  a bulge as they can easily break their tails :roll:Anyway I hope he feels better soon :D

hes been on some tablets and they have done the trick , tail back to normal ,looks like we was lucky

We paid for a Choc Labrador $250 (approx £125) for first injections here .... I have her insured now..

I've just got around to getting insurance for my 5 yr old yellow lab. Someone suggested Pet Plan which worked out at £19 per month, but then I looked at some others and eventually went with Tesco at £8.27 per month for a comparable policy - only diff is I have to pay £10 more excess. Plus we get good old tesco points as well.
