Little TVs
« on: September 01, 2008, 08:31:28 »
Has anyone got a little TV (portable-type thing, for use in the car/caravan/tent, that sort of thing) and what would you recommend, or what about a TV card for a laptop, do they work and are they any good?

Thanks.

Laptop TV cards can be good, the only things you need to be aware of are whether your laptop will run it properly (without choppy footage) and that it will look a little odd as a PC screen is a much higher resolution than a TV. If HD TV ever becomes popular then this is likely to improve, but I think people are getting a bit fed up with being forced to upgrade all the time!

The obvious places to try for a proper mini-TV would be Maplin or Towsure. Amazon have a good selection of TV cards.

I bought one of these for our caravan and it's brilliant
TV reception is superb when plugged into our omni ariel on the 'van and it only draws 15 amps when in use so wont flatten the battery

Thanks.

How do you find the freeview coverage out in the sticks?

I'm afraid we can't get freeview here until next year so can't really answer that !
What I did like though was the fact that you just press one button and the tv tunes itself to all the available channels, great for caravaning

Nice one - let me know what you think of it - I'll be taking mine to the Tour of Mull rally this year so I can watch a DVD of last year's tour while waiting for the stages to start !   :)
