a BIG Mud-Club Thanks
« on: September 01, 2008, 20:55:57 »
hello,
i want to say thanks to steve ( hairy ass welder )
as a couple of you know im on the landy rally in one week and the land rover was far far from being ready, i started with a fairly simple bulkhead swap and then found about 16 biggish rust holes in the chassy on the out riggers and on the front two sticky outy bits of the chassy
so i asked for help and steve came to the rescue for the first time ( spending two nights welding for me
then we decided the crank seal definatly needed to be changed before th 3000 mile overall trip
so i asked steve for some advice and he came round with his powertools and we started at 7 and had finnished by about half 12 to 1 in the morning
after that i put most of the land rover back togather and took it for a test drive and was happy with the result it was only about 20 minutes after i finnished the test drive i noticed a large patch of oil under the gear box area, the crank seal was leaking alot worse than origionally. so steve came again to help out and drop the gear box and find the problem, there was a slight nick in the casing and it had damaged the seal ( the reason the old one leaked although we didnt know it)
tnen the new seal only leaked when the engine was stopped after running, i had to go at that point and help with the 4x4 market, i left steve with my dad and he stayed untill 8 pm and sorted it

i owe alot of thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!

cheers kieran

it has stopped bleeding but then i havnt turned it one yet , we had to take off the gear levers again as the reverse light switch ( that new shiney one from paddocks ) had snapped off insideand was wedged  in the way of the gears so i could only get second gear

hopefully pinky its self will be at mud-club tomorrow, with five wheels and tyres from ebay wish me luck
ill practice with the new welder on thursday
cheers kieran
