As far as I know, if the input flange is the same, you should have the same ratio. I seem to rememeber later Disco's might have had a different ratio, but the propshaft connection would be different by then. Of course, i might be talking total garbage and i'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

As you are suggesting, the disco diff might be a 24 spline if it's later. If it's a 10 spline it will be a straight swap and you won't need the half shafts. The 1988 90 is going to be a 10 spline. Just been there myself and ended up with an early Disco 10 spline axle so I could use my ARB locker that was already built into a 10 spline diff!

I take it we are talking about the diff-flange and not the drive-flanges on the hubs?

Are the splines on the shaft ok?
If they are then replacing the flange is an easy job and does not require diff replacement which while not being a long or difficult job, does require you to have matching replacement diff & halfshafts. The drive-flange will be either be 4 (early) or 24 (later) spline, this does not necessarilaly have any relation to the number of splines on the half-shafts as my diff is 24-spline but the drive-flange is 4-spline.
A 24-spline flange/seal kit is part number STC4858 and I just happen to have a brand-new one sitting here.

All 10 spline diffs with 3.54 ratio (all coil sprung LR) arte interchangeable.  AFAIK all 24 spline diffs are likewise, ignoring of course the Salisbury axle.

The ends of some shafts are different to suite different styles of hubs, oil seals etc used in various models.
