Diff lock not engaging
« on: February 22, 2005, 20:57:51 »
Haven't had cause to use it, even towing on wet grass! since I bought the DISCO. Worked OK last winter. The lever won't go over to the left to engage. Can anyone tell me if you can get to the mech. on the transfer box from the top if the central console is removed? or am I going to be struggling from underneath.....Any advice gratefully accepted......Dave

Thanks Simon, very good info. Already have a big hammer, will get some corrosion remover tomorrow, unless my missus has some vinegar in the cupboard. Removing the console probably the worst part.
 .....Cheers  ....Dave

centre console, total doddle, remove the gear knobs, lift the rubber mat & remove the screews, remobve rubber mat in cubby box or wee tray & unscrew,CAREFULLY unclip the handbrake gator & undo the cable, the centre pannel should lift up now, remove the foam from around the sticks & then unscrew all the screws u see,4 round the g stick & 4 round the tbox stick, then remove the screws on the black surrounding plate & lift out the rubber pannel,u should now be ontop o the box, doesnt make it any easier to get to the difflock lever though

Mine has about 16 pop rivets holding the plate that holds the rubber in place and not screws.

I can't see how it doesn't make it easier unless you've got a 4 poster ramp and the hands of a three year old.

It's a doddle once you've removed the console.
Most of the linkage is straight underneath the console.
