Personally, I think it looks ugly. I've never really taken to the MINI (as opposed to the 'Mini') in it's standard form and this just looks even worse.

Is that a back door design pinched from the Discovery? I think it is!  :lol: :lol:

Looking at it I wouldn't be surprised if it takes up only slightly less space on the road than a Disco 1 and is about as heavy...

i think im right that mini will be used like every other "SOFTROADER" they will take the kids to school and nexer see anything more serious than a damp blade of Grass to get stuck on

and the mini i see as a mini is one of these

Unelss they have a very good engine in it, it will not sell in the UK due to tax, im 99% certain that petrol price tax will kill the soft roader market dead.

We recently looked at that whole sector for the wife as we live down an unmade road. The only thing with sensible emisions was the X3, and very ncie it was too, but the Freelander, Outlander and so such, soon as they had an engine big enough to pull it were into expensice tax and the economy was Pants.

According to a "automotive review" magazine, the new MINI 4x4 (or BMW1/2 4x4) will be the death nell for all Land Rovers!

How the poo is that piece of useless inept engineering rip off ever going to compete with a real offroader or a soft roader with a modicom of off road ability. But then the X3 and X5 are to off roading what the Titanic is to cross atlantic cruises, can't see it being much of a threat anyone (including a Tyke pedal car with no wheels!)

But seriously, it will never be intended as an 'off roader'. Let's face it, the vast majority of this type of vehicle is just sold for image. You are quite right about the magazine talking poo, but that's what magazines do. They, like the car companies, need to sell their product and they will do it by whatever means is succesful. As they say.... you can't believe anything you read in the press. I was stood in the take-away last night reading the Mail and an article started off with the word 'apparantly'..... at which point I couldn't be bothered to read any more  :roll:

To be fair V8moneypit is right, its not an offroader.
This vehicle will be aimed at the european market, where possibly the only time 4x4 is used is with a dusting of snow on the roads.

I was a bit puzzled by the media reaction to it having one sliding rear door and one normal one - I would guess BMW are gauging the reaction to decide which to fit, and the real thing will have two the same!

Mind you, they did make the Clubman with a random door on the wrong side for the UK. If BMC/BL/Rover had done that then the journalists would have fallen about laughing. Funny how BMW seem to get away with some daft things...

I was highly dismissive of the X3 till I actually looked into one. My wife was thinking of a softraoder as we live down 200yds of un made road which has already done for the underside of our Golf once, also new baby means we wanted a bigger family car and we had (now resolved) problems with child seats in Freelander1.

So there we were at BMW garrage and I was not very interested being a Landrover fan, then I looked in the boot of the X3 and ooo thats big ( better than the Freelander2 and almost everything else). The seating space was also excellent. You get ISOfix allround EVEN front and and turn off the front air bag.  (Can turn off the bag in the F2 but no ISOFIX)  That means you can have sprog in the front in ISOFIX seat and stuff in the back with seats down.

Then I drove it and it made the Freelaner 2 look like a TDi Defender (well not quite but its lots better than the Freelander) Itwas superb on road and very very good at overtaking etc,

Then the CO2 which is only 192ish and the MPG was MUCH better as well reducing costs etc,

So whilst its not going to fare well in 2ft deep ruts its not made too. But taking chest of draws back from an antique fair, getting out the car park after 5 days of rain at a County show, towing up a wet field, or just going up my farm track at more than 2 mph without falling to bits. Then its Ideal.

If you look at lots of modern "normal" cars then the ground clearance is so low that even slightly rough roads make them un viable and with colour coded bumbers/skirts the odd ding makes them tatty in  no time.

So whilst the vast majority of "soft roaders" were if not still are bought for fashion, there is a genuine market for them as well.

why not buy a suzuki sami or sj and put the mini  (real one) shell on it that ull fum up how do you classifi that one, Im shure some one has one out there with a tatty body (fwd that is not person lol

That was a great write up, just because it does not have a 2 inch lift and is lacking a landie badge does not mean its a bag of poo...

I think many 4x4's are aimed at the european market where they have to tackle gravel tracks and roads covered in snow.

The X3 and boxter are actually good cars.
They are not built for people who cant afford "real ones"
They are built to compete in their own market secter.
Not everyone wants a hulking great 4x4. Many just want a slightly higher seating position and "soft road" capability .

Nope, It was a black one, looked well done and on a chopped Rangy chassis if I remeber rightly......
