HELP! Diff locking up!
« on: September 14, 2008, 19:45:36 »
hi, i recently had a loud banging coming from the front axle when turning on full lock in both directions, i've changed both CV's and it was still there, i planned on further investigation the next weekend but the front diff exploded before that came round. i've changed the diff and still the banging remains! i have now removed the front prop and drove it and the banging has stopped! i wondered if the diff lock was stuck in, but the light has gone out and when jacked up it doen't seem to be engaged! Any help very welcome!
Cheers guys!

You removed the front prop and drove it.  Did you have to engage diff lock to drive it? if so did you check that you had no drive whatsoever without diff lock engaged?

hi, just took the prop off and drove it, didn't need to engage diff lock to move it!

There's your answer then, the centre diff is locked up somehow.

No problem.  The old one should still sell too as it's a popular mod for people like me who have big tyres on their RRC/Disco.  Just make sure you list it as faulty because I think it's not a difficult fix TBH.
