disco 2 beeps at me
« on: September 14, 2008, 20:00:29 »
hi my disco 2 has developed a fault when trying to lock the car with the fob it beeps the horn once , i think this is a code telling me a door is not shut, however they all are, i can overcome this by locking all the other doors by using the button on the dash then using the key in the drivers door and it beeps again but its locked,
any ideas????????? i have plugged in the nanocom but it only seems to check the front 2 doors open and shut

I get this sometimes

Though everytime it's due to a door/window open  :-k

Apparently, it can also mean that the battery in your "fob" is getting low, but I've never had this substantiated from a Dealer/Mechanic  :-k

Check the switch covering the bonnet its quite common for these to play up.
On the Disco2 the 'low battery' warning isnt always activated in the BCU.
Heres more info on it
Low battery warning: If this setting is set to enabled, the BCU will alert the driver of the vehicle if the remote transmitter battery requires replacing. The remote transmitter measures its battery voltage and when the voltage goes below a threshold it will transmit a special code to the BCU to request that it informs the driver by flashing the LED on-off-on short flashes of 50mS and "off" for 2000mS. This is conditional upon the driver's door being open and the ignition in an "off" position, or the key removed from the ignition barrel.

thanks ricky i have had a look at the bonnet one already seems ok nanocom reads bonnet and 2 front dooors open and closed ok , it doesn't seem to read the other doors. i suspect the tailgate or drivers door as they are most used, also this fault is keeping the interior lights off as it thinks a door has been open too long

The beep is to indicate if a door is not closed fully. I had this on My Disco.

You should go to a main dealer or L R specialist. They will hook it up to the computer which will tell if it's either the drivers door, the bonnet or one of the others.
On my Disco it was the a faulty rear door sensor.

ok i have had it plugged into the nanocom interface which tests as the doors are opened and closed all seems well according to it, however i have noticed if i leave the disco sitting for 2-3 minutes the locking then works no problems, as if something is either clicking shut or powering down, start the engine then turn off again the locking won't work for another 2-3 minutes.  i am wondering if after this short period would the alarm then ignore an error and allow the locking to work??

You can test your theory by not fully closing a door.

I’m no expert but could the 2-3 minutes period you mention coincide with the inertia light delay.

If so I would still expect it to be faulty door of bonnet sensor..

can someone have a look at the wiring diagram for me ,hopefully a better one than haynes i have, am i right in saying that when the door is shut the 2 blue wires to the drivers door lock should go to earth along with the pink for the interior lights, if i test the tailgate the wire to it goes to earth when the door is closed, however the drivers door has more wires and from the diagram i can't make out whether the blue wires switch across each other or to ground. when i test these wire i get allsorts of crazy readings  K ohms on one M ohms on the other then 2 ohms with the key.
from these i suspect the door latch but main stealer is 30miles away and nobody lists them mail order

Can check the wiring diagrams later but on the wrong computer at the moment.  You should get yourself the RAVE CD which has about 1200 pages of them!  Brookwells will mail-order you the switch next day.

Hi CC, Piper5 has a Nanocom which should allow him to test for this himself.

well the door lock arrived fitted it and now the fault has changed, the interior lights are now coming on and off as they should be , the key fob opens all the doors but won't lock them even after a few minutes power down time like before, still nanocom states all doors bonnet etc are opening and closing ok beginning to wonder about the bcu???

fixed it, it turned out to be a fault with the 12v charging socket in the boot the bcu must give the same beep as a door open alarm if it thinks you have something plugged in, i disconnected it and hey presto all ok
