What a waste...
« on: September 15, 2008, 18:09:27 »
Just deposited a Sankey load of crap at the local dump, sorry council recycling centre, and noticed a whole array
of fancy movement detectors and security cameras have just been installed. This involved also laying on mains power by digging a trench along at least half a mile of access road. Must have cost thousands, and for what, to stop the rubbish being stolen...

Id guess that the council has outsourced running the "tip" to wase contractors. No doubt the contractors get paid  a certain amount for running it and get to keep any revenue from stuff they sell on. Which includes garden waste (compost), Glass, Scrap metal, oil (I think) so basically most of that "rubbish". NO doubt the contractors have paid for this, unless your council is daft (not uncommon).

Or it could be the council trying to keep an eye on their employees and how much they are making from back handers!!

I know my local "recycleing" centre staff make a lot more than their wages by selling stuff on for cash in their pocket!

I even had one ask me for a bung! He was subtle (not!) I came in with my 3rd load of garden stuff from a load of trees that I'd had trimmed and he said "your only allowed to do 2 loads a day! but as you're a good customer I'm sure we can come to an arrangement for cash!!"

I told him to "foxtrot oscar" and asked where it stated how many loads a day you could do? then unloaded and drove off! He tried to stop me but I was more determined than he was!!

shame its Budda!!

They are quite likely ANPR cameras, keeping track of who is depositing waste and how much/often.  Landfill tax is very high so coucils don't want to be disposing of contractors waste, so, if a vehicle repeatedly turns up and dumps a load of rubble, they might get a letter through the post.

my step father used to run our local one for about 15/20 years he told me the council paid him nout and that he had to pay them so much each year and he made or his money from recycling he also had to pay for the bin's to get emptyd he got out of it a few years back when the council said they wanted more money and wanted to give him more restriction on what he could do on site
