The problem is not so much the woman but the media that make so much of a story — whatever it be — that encourages others to do the same or similar

I'd totally agree with that, but people will still abuse the system and then get snotty if they don't get the response they want from the Police.
I've just spent the entire night shift stuck in the local A&E department with some arse, who got himself nicked for an assault, and now blames the Police for the whole situation!
He sits there moaning and whinging that he isn't getting the service he has the right to from the Police (who wrongfully arrested him of course) and the medical teams (who said that there was nothing wrong with him and that he was shamming to try and get out of custody).
He said that I didn't care, and got upset when I replied with "You're right, I don't care. Personally, I'd be quite happy if you just popped your clogs right now, as it would only be one form to fill out".

Sorry, the lazy scumnags like him get up my nose!

And that is the whole problem with modern officialdom They want o see their 'story' in print instead of getting on with the job they have undertaken   ;)

I think there should be a Ticket for all these offences, Ie you call up because your Pizza is cold, the call taker takes your details and explains an officer will be over to see you in the next 48hrs...

Said officer calls around and gives you a ticket for being a total plonker!

Its the same people calling the police day after day... I think its like a drug, they just need their police fix for the day! sad if you ask me!
If want to walk it walk it, if you want to ride it ride it just leave me alone to drive it!

I think the fixed penalty idea has legs .

do any of you oppressors have a suggestion box at work ;)

The idea that the plonker thinks he's getting a rapid responce then gets a £80 fixed penalty for wasting police time or indeed hoax calling just made me spit tea

I just told the wife the rabbit story and she replied (please note she works in the local doctors surgery) that one night while on call one of the local Doc's got a phone call from a patient at 3.30am when he got out of bed and answered it he was greeted with "hello your a clever man do you know" and proceeded to ask a crossword question... apparently they thought because he was the on call Doc he would be sat up all night waiting for phone calls board

I worked for BT in Nottingham as a 999 call handler and 100 customer services operator (glorified receptionist!) and while I was in the job I did absolutely love it simply because you are not only the first point of contact you're also the come back in the case of transmission failure between the emergency authority and although we got quite a lot of genuine calls I'd say 70% of the calls throughout the day were hoaxes.

Whilst some made us annoyed there was also a few that made us chuckle a bit.

One call I received the day after I finished my training was a gentleman that was quite distressed, in which case we had to monitor the call until we are advised by the EA that we can clear, the gentleman requested and upon putting him through I went in to monitor the situation. The poor bloke still very much worried upon being asked by the Police operator what the problem was replied..."You're going to think I am an absolute pillock...I've locked myself in the car and I can't seem to get out of it!"

Cruel to laugh but that one made my day as I'd received a pretty nasty call at the start of my shift about a youth in Glasgow that had been stabbed in the throat and had to monitor that and then immediately after I had a multiple EA request to a fatal accident on the M6 Northbound.

Other than the hoaxes and distressing calls though it was a brilliant job and it's also taught me how to keep my head screwed on in tricky or nasty situations.
